Audi S5

The Audi S5 is the German luxury automaker’s factory tuned version of their sleek two door fast back and features distinct bold bodywork, boxed fenders, 19 inch wheels and a 4.2 Liter FSI V8 making 349 HP and 325 lb-ft of torque when it was introduced in 2008. Future S5 luxury sports cars will be powered by a 3.0 Liter supercharged V6 making a more efficient 333 HP, competing head to head with the BMW M3.

2011 Audi S5 by Senner Tuning

The 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show brought out plenty of tuning upgrades to quench our thirst for the new and improved. Among those projects is Senner Tuning’s take on Audi’s refreshed sports coupe, the S5 Coupe.

The Audi S5 by Senner Tuning comes bearing 445 HP under the hood, getting customers very close to the most powerful model in the A5 line-up: the RS5 (450 HP). That’s an amazing increase over the car’s standard 333 HP. For the 3.0-liter TFSI’s engine upgrade, the tuner has combined software optimization with a new exhaust system and an enlarged pipe diameter.

With that kind of power hidden under the hood, who needs exterior modifications, right? Senner Tuning hasn’t completely ignored the sports coupe’s look, donning the exterior with a matte black glitter finish with bright borders and a new set of 20" wheels painted in Diamante Black Polish. The sultry, sparkly look gets magnified by a height adjustment of 40mm on the front axle and 35mm on the rear axle. The interior is only briefly ignored, with the addition of carbon fiber insertions.

2012 Audi S5 Convertible

After being introduced into the market back in 2007, the Audi A5 line-up is entering the 2012 model year with new, advanced technologies and an updated design. These type of mid-cycle refreshes are to be expected, but the one modified feature that brought some minor confusion to the automotive world is the downgraded engine found under the hood.

The previous Audi S5 came packing a 4.2 liter V8 engine that cranked out 354 HP, but the 2012 model will only get a supercharged 3.0 liter TFSI engine with a total output of 333 HP. This may leave a few people shaking their heads, but greener is leaner and this new engine will provide an improved fuel consumption of about 20% (getting it to 29.04 US mpg). If the environmental aspect isn’t enough, then rest assured that the 2012 Audi S5 Convertible will still deliver impressive performance numbers.

2012 Audi S5 Coupe

Audi has officially unveiled their new 2012 line-up for the A5 and S5 models, drawing some raised eyebrows for the subtle changes and powertrain tweaks featured.

As the high-performance option of the bunch, the new 2012 S5 Coupe is expected to attract buyers with performance numbers in mind. On that note, Audi went with something that might not be what people expected of the car. While there are some aesthetic changes done, the most significant change for the S5 Coupe is the choice of powertrain, or in this case, the ’downgrade’ of powertrain under the car’s hood. No longer will the S5 come with eight cylinders. Instead, the German automaker opted to use a 3.0-liter V6 TFSI powerplant that produces less horsepower than its predecessor.

All isn’t lost, though, as Audi certainly worked themselves around the new engine, giving it equal performance numbers to the 2011 model while also improving the car’s efficiency rating, something that’s becoming increasingly important among buyers these days.

See...we told you all wasn’t lost.

2011 Audi S5 Convertible by Awe Tuning

Just because a tuning kit doesn’t provide a plethora of modifications or a ton of extra horsepower tucked tightly underneath the hood doesn’t mean that a little special treatment isn’t in order. At least that is what Awe Tuning seems to think as they have just attached a small, but not insignificant detail to the Audi S5 to improve the horsepower just a tad.

The new exhaust system is available in Polished Silver or Diamond Black and consists of adjustable slash cut tips and an X-Pipe for enhanced cylinder scavenging and exhaust tone. This small addition allows for the S5 to get an extra 8hp and 9Nm of torque.

"Our S5 Cabrio Exhaust system is capped off with attractive slash cut tips featuring the AWE Tuning logo. These tips are double walled to ensure a mirror finish even under hard usage. Choose between the classic Polished Silver or the luscious Diamond Black tips to help your car stand out from the pack. Each tip is individually adjustable, so stagger and depth into bumper can be set according to personal taste."

If a small change is what is needed then this kit is definitely the way to go. Personally, we’d prefer to go all out and get the Audi S5 Typhon by SR Auto Group or the one by Sportec, but our wallets may not agree.

2010 Audi S5 Cabriolet by Stasis Engineering

When it comes to fine-tuning Audis, there aren’t a lot of aftermarket tuners that can hold a candle to Stasis Engineering. At the recently concluded SEMA event, Stasis was at it again with a slew of Audi Signature Series models making their way to the SEMA showroom floor.

One particular model that was worth our attention was Stasis’ take on the Audi S5 Cabriolet. We’ve always taken a particular liking to the S5 Cabriolet because it offers all the elements that we look for in a car. It’s fast, it’s powerful, it handles remarkably well, and best, of all, it looks pretty darn awesome.

But even if people like us are already fawning over the S5 Cabriolet, some folks apparently are not as convinced, not because they don’t like the car in its standard format, but because they feel that they can maximize every ounce of it even further. That’s where Stasis Engineering comes in. For these guys, a good sports car can always be better if you put the right elements into it.

2010 Audi S5 Typhon by SR Auto Group

After the R8 Phantom by SR Auto Group was revealed at the beginning of this month, the same tuner has wasted no time in producing yet another project for Audi. This time, the venture included an Audi S5 called the Typhon and it will be available upon request.

The exterior package for the Audi includes a Leios matte black exterior wrap (you gotta have the matte black, right?), a Reiger front lip, a Reiger roof spoiler, and a Bespoke dry carbon rear diffusor. Add a new set pf 20" wheels painted in the same matte black finish - of course - and this little package is fit to take on the night in a sexy and sultry manner.

Adding on to the performance of the S5 are an H&R coilover system, a new Milltek sport exhaust system, Milltek downpipe, and ECM Tuning. What changes occurred under the hood are still a mystery, but we do expect something to be done considering "Typhon" is the name of the final son of Gaia and the most deadly monster of Greek mythology. Let’s just hope that SR Auto Group doesn’t disappoint! Of course, we are still waiting on the performance upgrades for the R8 Phantom so we won’t be holding our breath in anticipation for these numbers to surface any time soon.

Since this hot little number will only be available upon request, prices won’t be given out unless the interested customer gives the tuner a call.

2010 Audi S5 Cabrio by HS Motorsport

Here we go; it’s that time again when a German tuner - HS Motorsport to be exact - takes the little plaything that is the Audi S5 Cabrio and transforms it into a better machine. We’ve visited this type of project before with the kits from CarGraphic and MTM where we found that MTM’s tuning kit had a clear advantage over CarGraphic’s package. Now that HS Motorsport has entered the picture, whose kit will come out on top as the best for the open-topped sports car? Let’s delve a little deeper and make that decision.

HS Motorsport is on the same page as was CarGraphic when they skipped over making any exterior modifications to the already exquisite ride. Instead, their focus was aimed at the engine’s output. This focus produced a total of 375hp (up from a total of 333 HP) and 525 NM of torque (up from 440 NM of torque). HS Motorsport also removed the top speed limiter so the S5 will now hit a top speed of 180mph (the standard model was able to hit a top speed of 155 mph).

2010 Audi S5 by Sportec

When we discuss tuning kits provided by Sportec, we are usually talking about Porsche models. However, the British tuner actually tunes many different brands including Mercedes, BMW, Volkswagen, and even Fiat models, among others. Their latest package sees them tweaking the power on the Audi S5, both coupe quattro and cabriolet.

The package is called the "Stage One" and it uses the Audi’s 3.0-liter supercharged, V6, TFSI powerplant, a free flowing air filter element, and ECU remapping to completely revamp the car’s output. The result of this hard work is an output of 425 HP at 6640 rpm (an increase of 97 HP over the standard model) and a peak torque of 520 Nm at 4250 rpm (up from the standard 440 Nm). And as an impressive little touch, the maximum torque output is available from 2750 to 6250 rpm. With the new amount of power, the S5 makes the 0 to 60 mph sprint in to 4.6 seconds, while top speed is limited at 155 mph for safety reasons.

The Sportec Stage One upgrade is priced at £1950.00.

Press release after the jump.

Audi S5 Coupe being sold on eBay with "Porsche Lime Green" exterior

How’s this for awkward?

A customized Audi S5 Coupe popped up on eBay recently with a host of upgrades making it a pretty desirable ride, even at a price of just over $61,000 – it’s $61,465 in case you’re as interested as we are.

Now, in spite of all the tunings this particular S5 Coupe received, what really struck us was what color it came in, or rather what the color description was used to name it.

Porsche Lime Green?”

If that’s not an ode to one of Audi’s fiercest competitors, I don’t know what is. Apparently, the owner of this S5 personally ordered this paint finish at a price of $2,500 and, while we think that the color isn’t that particularly bad, the lime green exterior/orange interior combination doesn’t catch our eye the way it’s supposed to. And using a paint finish named after a competitor certainly doesn’t cast a vote of confidence from us.

But hey, to each his own, right? After all, colors – and the subsequent names of these colors – notwithstanding, this tuned-up Audi S5 Coupe is still one fine piece of road machinery.

2010 Audi S5 Sportback by Senner Tuning

After receiving the modification for the Audi S5 by Senner Tuning a few months ago, the tuning firm has unveiled a new tuning package for the Audi S5 Sportback. The package is called the Grand Prix and includes not only exterior and interior updates, but engine modifications as well.

In its standard version the S5 Sportback is powered by a 3.0 liter V6 engine that delivers 333 hp and a peak torque of 324 lb.-ft. Senner Tuning has managed to obtain more. The tuner added an ECU remap and a high-flow sports air filter, new stainless steel exhaust system with sport catalytic converters, and a four pipe muffler. The result is a maximum output of 375 Hp and a peak torque of 495 Nm. The top speed limiter has also been removed, however, there are no details on the new top speed. Of course, it is safe to say that the top speed will exceed the previous speed of 155mph.

In addition to these modifications Senner Tuning is also offering a lowered suspension, which reduces the front ride height by 40 mm and the rear ride height by 35 mm. The package is finished by 20" two-piece alloy wheels.

The interior received minor changes consisting of some carbon fiber trimmings and some new tachometers.

Pricing for the new Audi S5 Sportback Grand Prix modification kit has yet to be revealed, but we’ll get back to you as soon as it is.
