When Audi’s 2012 lineup was revealed, there were very little changes made to the car’s overall look. Aside from a few tweaks here and there, Audi’s main concern for the new model year S5 was the downsizing of the engine, from an eight cylinder to a 333 HP 3.0-liter V6 TFSI powerplant that produces less horsepower than its predecessor. German tuner, Eibach, didn’t have a problem with that as the V6 provided equal performance numbers to the 2011 model while also improving the car’s efficiency rating. What they did have a problem with, however, was the car’s handling, so they decided to generate more power with an optimum suspension set-up themed "Inspired by motorsport – Performance for the road."
This new suspension system is composed of Pro-Kit Performance Springs and specially adapted mono-tube gas pressure shock absorbers from Bilstein. The best part of this new system is that it offers a slightly lowered center of gravity that makes the car look even more like the Audi A5 DTM version.
The "Inspired by motorsport – Performance for the road" theme is extended to the exterior of the vehicle with a cool white finish combined with red graphics. Eibach also provided three different wheel options: Show & Shine for representative purposes, Performance for everyday use, and High Performance for the racetrack.
Noted German tuner, Senner Tuning, has released their new program for the new Audi S5, adding a highly appreciated tuning program for Audi’s resident sports coupe.
In line with what Audi did to the face-lifted S5 Coupe - some styling tweaks and the addition of a new 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine that produces 333 horsepower - Senner Tuning’s new package takes all those new elements and ratchets them up a notch.
The exterior program for the S5 Coupe is far from finished and Senner Tuning has said that they’re working on new carbon fiber parts as part of their aerodynamic kit. Nevertheless, the tuner did say that they’re already offering packages for the interior, including a carbon fiber trim package.
Despite the promise of an aero kit, the real highlight of Senner Tuning’s program involves the engine upgrade, which includes the addition of a new sports air filter, a custom exhaust system, and an updated ECU unit. All that added, Senner was able to bump up the output from the S5’s 3.0-liter V6 TFSI engine from 333 ponies and 324 lb/ft of torque to 377 horsepower and 369 lb/ft of torque.
More importantly, Senner didn’t stop with the engine upgrades. The German tuner also added a new set of 20" Corniche Challenge wheels wrapped in Vredestein Wintrac Extreme tires and the Variant 3 Inox Line-KW coilovers with adjustable height, rebound, and pressure level.
If we had to pick our favorite Audi, excluding the RS models of course, the S5 would be at the top of our list. It’s sporty, luxurious, elegant, and Audi has provided it with a special edition. Only 125 units of this special edition S5 will be built with prices starting at $68,700 for the S5 4.2 Special Edition (quattro manual) and $69,900 for the S5 4.2 Special Edition (quattro tiptronic).
The Audi S5 Special Edition will be offered with the Prestige package, quattro with sports rear differential, and a list of exclusive equipment, some borrowed directly from the RS5. The car is painted in a very cool Daytona Gray pearl effect exterior paint and then combined with 19" Titanium wheels with 255/35 summer tires. The interior combines Bi-color Polar Silver / Black S sport seats with Silver contrast stitching featured in the seats, armrests, shifter, and steering wheel. From the RS5, the Audi S5 Special Edition borrows the carbon fiber inlays with Piano Black instrument cluster surround and the floor mats with silver leather surround.
After first seeing patent drawings of the upcoming Audi RS5 Convertible, the car has finally been caught testing around the Nürburgring race track. The spy images reveal a bigger front spoiler, bigger brakes and wider fenders. At the back, however, it’s still S5 business as usual, with narrower rear fenders and S-type quad exhaust pipes. The model will also get new LED lights, a larger diffuser, and a rear spoiler that extends automatically at 74.56 mph.
As with the coupe version, the convertible version will use a standard 4.2 liter V8 engine with a total of 450 HP at 8,250 rpm and a peak torque of 317.15 lb-ft available between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm. The sprint from 0 to 60 mph will be made in 4.6 seconds, while top speed will be limited to 155 mph. The top speed can be increased to more than 170 mph upon request.
Audi hasn’t exactly been skywriting the future of the RS5 model, but a couple of years ago when plans for the RS5 were getting ironed out, the company had already confirmed a convertible variant for the sports coupe. Well, the debut for the vehicle came and went and no convertible version seemed to be in sight. Until now. Audi has applied trademarks for a RS5 Convertible and has also released patent drawings for the vehicle.
The images reveal the same design language found on the recently launched facelift RS5 and will have the same electrically operated fabric top as the A5 and S5 convertibles. Under the hood, the convertible will get the same 4.2 liter V8 engine as the coupe version with an output of 450 HP and a peak torque of 317.15 lb-ft available between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm. The engine will be combined with Audi’s seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission and quattro all-wheel drive system.
Since the patent drawings have already been released, expect a production model for the Audi RS5 Convertible to be launched fairly quickly. Watch out, BMW M3 Convertible, Audi’s coming after you!

UPDATE 10/11/2011: The upcoming Audi RS5 Cabrio has been caught testing at the Nurburgring test track. The model features a bigger front spoiler, bigger brakes, and wider fenders. Enjoy!
The 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show brought out plenty of tuning upgrades to quench our thirst for the new and improved. Among those projects is Senner Tuning’s take on Audi’s refreshed sports coupe, the S5 Coupe.
The Audi S5 by Senner Tuning comes bearing 445 HP under the hood, getting customers very close to the most powerful model in the A5 line-up: the RS5 (450 HP). That’s an amazing increase over the car’s standard 333 HP. For the 3.0-liter TFSI’s engine upgrade, the tuner has combined software optimization with a new exhaust system and an enlarged pipe diameter.
With that kind of power hidden under the hood, who needs exterior modifications, right? Senner Tuning hasn’t completely ignored the sports coupe’s look, donning the exterior with a matte black glitter finish with bright borders and a new set of 20" wheels painted in Diamante Black Polish. The sultry, sparkly look gets magnified by a height adjustment of 40mm on the front axle and 35mm on the rear axle. The interior is only briefly ignored, with the addition of carbon fiber insertions.
After being introduced into the market back in 2007, the Audi A5 line-up is entering the 2012 model year with new, advanced technologies and an updated design. These type of mid-cycle refreshes are to be expected, but the one modified feature that brought some minor confusion to the automotive world is the downgraded engine found under the hood.
The previous Audi S5 came packing a 4.2 liter V8 engine that cranked out 354 HP, but the 2012 model will only get a supercharged 3.0 liter TFSI engine with a total output of 333 HP. This may leave a few people shaking their heads, but greener is leaner and this new engine will provide an improved fuel consumption of about 20% (getting it to 29.04 US mpg). If the environmental aspect isn’t enough, then rest assured that the 2012 Audi S5 Convertible will still deliver impressive performance numbers.

Audi has officially unveiled their new 2012 line-up for the A5 and S5 models, drawing some raised eyebrows for the subtle changes and powertrain tweaks featured.
As the high-performance option of the bunch, the new 2012 S5 Coupe is expected to attract buyers with performance numbers in mind. On that note, Audi went with something that might not be what people expected of the car. While there are some aesthetic changes done, the most significant change for the S5 Coupe is the choice of powertrain, or in this case, the ’downgrade’ of powertrain under the car’s hood. No longer will the S5 come with eight cylinders. Instead, the German automaker opted to use a 3.0-liter V6 TFSI powerplant that produces less horsepower than its predecessor.
All isn’t lost, though, as Audi certainly worked themselves around the new engine, giving it equal performance numbers to the 2011 model while also improving the car’s efficiency rating, something that’s becoming increasingly important among buyers these days.
See...we told you all wasn’t lost.

Just because a tuning kit doesn’t provide a plethora of modifications or a ton of extra horsepower tucked tightly underneath the hood doesn’t mean that a little special treatment isn’t in order. At least that is what Awe Tuning seems to think as they have just attached a small, but not insignificant detail to the Audi S5 to improve the horsepower just a tad.
The new exhaust system is available in Polished Silver or Diamond Black and consists of adjustable slash cut tips and an X-Pipe for enhanced cylinder scavenging and exhaust tone. This small addition allows for the S5 to get an extra 8hp and 9Nm of torque.
"Our S5 Cabrio Exhaust system is capped off with attractive slash cut tips featuring the AWE Tuning logo. These tips are double walled to ensure a mirror finish even under hard usage. Choose between the classic Polished Silver or the luscious Diamond Black tips to help your car stand out from the pack. Each tip is individually adjustable, so stagger and depth into bumper can be set according to personal taste."
If a small change is what is needed then this kit is definitely the way to go. Personally, we’d prefer to go all out and get the Audi S5 Typhon by SR Auto Group or the one by Sportec, but our wallets may not agree.
When it comes to fine-tuning Audis, there aren’t a lot of aftermarket tuners that can hold a candle to Stasis Engineering. At the recently concluded SEMA event, Stasis was at it again with a slew of Audi Signature Series models making their way to the SEMA showroom floor.
One particular model that was worth our attention was Stasis’ take on the Audi S5 Cabriolet. We’ve always taken a particular liking to the S5 Cabriolet because it offers all the elements that we look for in a car. It’s fast, it’s powerful, it handles remarkably well, and best, of all, it looks pretty darn awesome.
But even if people like us are already fawning over the S5 Cabriolet, some folks apparently are not as convinced, not because they don’t like the car in its standard format, but because they feel that they can maximize every ounce of it even further. That’s where Stasis Engineering comes in. For these guys, a good sports car can always be better if you put the right elements into it.
