2012 GMC Yukon and Sierra Heritage Editions
 
The "GMC Truck" marque first appeared on vehicles exhibited at the 1912 New York International Auto Show. Now, 100 years later, GMC will bring the Yukon and Sierra Heritage Editions to celebrate the company’s centenary. The new Heritage Editions will be offered on the Sierra 1500 Crew Cab, Yukon, and Yukon XL models in SLT trim, priced at $2,645 for Sierra and $1,970 for Yukon and Yukon XL package. The new models will be distinguished by commemorative exterior badges on the doors, a chrome package for Sierra, a new set of 20-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels, and different equipment for the interiors. Three colors will be available – a new, exclusive Heritage Blue ($195), White Diamond ($995), or Onyx Black (no additional cost). Interior colors for the Yukon are Ebony and Light Tan. "The GMC brand always looks forward, but this day provides an opportunity to celebrate 100 years of the proud GMC name," said Tony DiSalle, U.S. vice president of GMC Marketing. While the Detroit Auto Show is just a few weeks away, General Motors has decided to offer us a few hints on what the company will be offering, and the first details revealed are on the GMC Sierra All Terrain HD Concept. Based on the Sierra HD, the Sierra All Terrain HD concept is shorter, wider, and taller than the original. It features a unique five-foot, eight-inch Crew Cab/short box body configuration that supports a wheels-at-the-corners proportion. Its exterior design is accentuated by a large, airflow-optimized grille, streamlined bumpers, large fender flares, LED lights, smooth-appearance front marker lamps integrated behind the top edge of the windshield glass, and 20-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in 35-inch-tall BFGoodrich tires. Under the hood GMC has placed a 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel V-8 engine that delivers a total of 397 HP and 765 lb.-ft. of torque. GMC has decided that they will acknowledge the age old saying of "bigger is better" by adding jumbo-sized versions of the already popular Denali HD 2500 series. GMC announced today that the Sierra HD Denali will become available in Denali HD crew cab versions of the 3500 Series (1-ton) for both single rear wheel and dually versions in 2WD and 4WD applications - next to the current 2500 series (3/4 ton), crew cab and 4WD version. Following the success of the 2500 series, additional versions simply had to be created in order to take advantage of the popularity the truck currently has. The Sierra HD Denali is powered by a Vortec 6.0L gas V-8/six-speed automatic powertrain. For a little more of the green paper, GMC can also provide a new Duramax 6.6 liter turbo diesel V-8 delivering a total of 397 hp at 3,000 rpm and 765 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,600 rpm. The 0-60 mph sprint will be made in less than 9 seconds and quarter-mile in less than 16 seconds in 2500HD models. The engine is mated to a new Allison 1000 six-speed automatic transmission. The new Duramax 6.6 liter turbo diesel V-8 delivers a total of 397 hp at 3,000 rpm and 765 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,600 rpm. The 0-60 mph sprint will be made in less than 9 seconds and quarter-mile in less than 16 seconds in 2500HD models. The engine is mated to a new Allison 1000 six-speed automatic transmission. The new Sierra Denali HD is distinguished by a new, three-bar grilles and powertrain-badged louvered hoods, along with a revised, full-width chrome steel front bumper and a new family of 17-, 18- and 20-inch wheels. We are all well aware of situation down in Haiti, and while celebrities are holding telethons and individuals are pledging their last dollar to the relief effort, the American automaker General Motors is taking action at the request of the U.N. by sending a fleet of GMC Sierra pick up trucks to the distressed island nation as a joint effort between the GM Foundation and the William J. Clinton Foundation. According to the former U.S. president, "I’m pleased the GM Foundation has made a generous donation of trucks to our relief efforts in Haiti, which will be instrumental in mobilizing food and lifesaving supplies,...The American auto industry has made great strides to increase aid and assistance to Haiti, and GM’s leadership demonstrates what corporate citizens can do to help the people of Haiti rebuild and recover from the massive earthquake” said Clinton. Top Speed had the pleasure of trying out a greener option for that other necessary item in any weekend racers garage, a work truck. Sure its nice to have a classic Ferrari or a an all out race car in your garage, but what good are they if you cannot get them to an appropriate environment. That is where our GMC Sierra 2WD Hybrid Crew Cab comes into play, this pick up can haul up to 6,100 pounds of trailer and seat six individuals inside the cab. Aside from the nice touches like the 18 inch chrome rims and larger than life front grill, the Sierra Hybrid has the benefit of being an alternatively fueled vehicle. The full sized trucks 2-Mode Hybrid/Electric power train is tuned to get as much as 21 MPH when driving around town, impressive for any vehicle that weighs over 5,000 pounds. Don’t let the size discourage you, the Sierra Hybrid is easy to drive and the power adjustable front seat allows the driver to find the perfect vantage point. The truck uses a combination of an electric module and a 6.0 Liter Chevrolet small block to make 332 HP, but you most likely won’t have to use much of those ponies, we found ourselves driving the Sierra around on electric only power most of the time, negating the need for any of the eight pistons. It was nice to know that they were there when we needed them like when passing on the highway or pulling a heavy load. We recently received a GMC Sierra Hybrid pick-up to try out in our Top Speed test fleet. First thing first, this truck is big; from the Hybrid two-mode badges, to the front bench, everything is huge. One of the best features of this Sierra is the lack of Hybrid badging everywhere. The Sierra is toned down compared to the Chevrolet full size hybrids. The Tahoe Hybrid has the word written in at least six places throughout the truck’s body and glass panels, the Sierra on the other hand has a pair of simple badges on the front fenders (thankfully they don’t have the gaudy Hybrid grills from the Escalade) and another toned down "two-mode Hybrid" badge on the tailgate. Powered by a 6.0 Liter Vortec V8, the Sierra has plenty of get up and go. The only thing we have yet to test is the full sized pick-up’s towing ability, but with the added torque of the electric motor, that shouldn’t be a problem. The Sierra hybrid is the perfect fleet vehicle. It has seating for up to six, lots of storage capacity and because it’s a hybrid, cities and businesses will be open to all sorts of tax breaks. With the way that new car sales are going, anyone who wishes to have a fleet of Sierra hybrids has good reason to bargain. 2009 GMC Sierra Hybrid
General Motors will unveil at the Chicago Auto Show the 2009 GMC Sierra Hybrid, a powerful full-size pickup that achieves 40-percent greater city fuel economy and a 25-percent improvement in overall fuel economy. The 2009 Sierra Hybrid will go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2008 and is based on the strong and capable Sierra platform that was introduced for the 2007 model year.  The 2009 Sierra Hybrid is powered by a two-mode hybrid system and a powerful 6.0 liters gas V8 that delivers highly efficient performance, including all-electric driving up to 30 mph.  It will be offered in the Crew Cab body style on both 2WD and 4WD models. Each model is equipped with several standard, popular features, including StabiliTrak electronic stability control system, a locking rear axle and a trailering package. Sierra Hybrid also offers dual-stage frontal air bags and head curtain side air bags, and it is the only full-size truck with five-star side-impact ratings in federal crash tests. Production begins in December of 2008, with delivery to dealers expected in early 2009. Pricing will start from $39,365 (including $975 DFC) for 2WD models with the 3HA package and $45,500 (including DFC) with the 3HB package. Press release after jump.
