A lot of folks expected Pagani to introduce a new model at the Geneva Motor Show. But that didn’t happen. Instead, the Italian automaker showcased a new and extremely expensive option that customers can add to the Pagani Huayra.
Collaborating with Sonus Faber, Pagani introduced the custom Huayra sound system that was designed by the two companies to fit perfectly in line with the lightweight philosophy of the Italian supercar.
The overall setup is pretty remarkable for a sound system. It comes with carbon-fiber speaker cones, which is no small feat for those who designed and developed it.
In addition, the sound system also comes with neodymium magnets and an advanced amplifier system that results in a staggering 1,200 watts of power - three times as much as the "regular" sound system already installed in the Huayra.
That’s a lot of audio power to complement a car that already boasts of a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V-12 engine that produces 700 horsepower and 730 pound-feet of tire smoking torque.

Keeping a supercar showroom fresh is a constant struggle, and the exterior paintwork is the hardest piece of the puzzle, right behind the engine and electronics. Buyers will walk right past a supercar with purring mechanicals if it has bad paint. Any visible paint scars from stone chips can be a deal-breaker and can easily knock 15 percent off the car’s total value.
Bad on a $10,000 Toyota but utterly devastating on a $200,000 Carrera GT.
Making things worse, low-slung supercars pick up more road scars and any other type of vehicle.

The current-generation Honda Civic’s design has been much maligned by everybody, including Honda itself. The reception’s been so bad that even Honda tried to hustle through extensive interior and exterior design upgrades for the 2013 model.
Fortunately, the Japanese automaker’s in-house aftermarket arm, Mugen, has come to offer some assistance of its own in the form of a new styling package for the Euro-spec Civic.
The package is purely aesthetics, which actually is a good thing considering the amount of help the Civic needs to make it palatably desirable. Mugen’s new front spoiler and a revised grille are big bonuses to add a splash of aggression to the car’s front profile. Aerodynamic side skirts are also offered, as is a new rear diffuser, a carbon-fiber rearview mirror cover, a tailgate-mounted wing, Mugen badging, anodized aluminum oil caps in Champagne Gold, Silver Grey, Red, Blue or Black, and a choice of three different sets of wheels that can be had in a number of different finishes.
If only Honda had Mugen design the Civic, then it probably wouldn’t be in the pickle it is in now.
Although you probably won’t get these products in time for the holidays - or maybe you can with expedited shipping - McLaren’s recently launched eStore has come out with a range of new products that make for some pretty sweet Christmas gifts.
There are a multitude of accessories, including carbon fiber luggages, a leather wallet and card holder that have been finished in carbon fibre weave-effect leather with McLaren orange stitching, and yes, even key chains, gloves, clothing, caps, and jackets.
But the unquestioned highlight of the new line is the Tag Heuer Carrera MP4-12C Chronograph, a collaborative effort between long-standing partners McLaren and Tag Heuer. The special edition timepiece will be limited to only 1,000 pieces and takes direct inspiration from the high performance 12C sports car after which it is named.
The new Chronograph reflects the new sports car in colour, materials and design. The watch’s dials are made in carbon fiber and were inspired by the MP4-12C’s carbon fiber chassis, while the sapphire crystal inserts reveal the movement behind the watch face.
Of course this exclusive watch comes with a huge price: £8950 - or about $14,500 at the current exchange rates.

The current Audi TT-RS is powered by a 2.5-liter, 5-cylinder engine that delivers a total of 360 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 343 pound-feet of torque at a super-low 1,650 rpm. Impressive results for such a tiny sports car, but not impressive enough considering that Mercedes obtained an almost similar output from an even slower engine: the 330 HP 2.0-liter four-cylinder set to be used in the A45 AMG.
As a result, Audi decided its time to update this famous engine. The timing’s right, too, because by September 2014, the German automaker will have to comply to EU 6 regulations. In order to achieve this update, Audi will be working on the engine’s combustion processes, while also working on the catalysts and "from there it’s just geometry", according to quattro development boss Stephan Reil, who also added that the "air coming in to the cylinder in rolling waves to produce as little pollution as possible."
During the entire process, Audi will also be working on improving the engine’s performance numbers, especially if you consider that Tobias Moers from AMG claims that the A45 AMG is around six seconds faster around the Nurburgring Nordschleife than the RS3 - which is also using the five-cylinder engine.
Back in 1967, the RS Appearance Package for the Chevrolet Camaro included something that has since become one of the more desirable features on classic Camaros: hidden headlights. When you turned on the headlights, the doors opened and when the lights went off, the doors closed, giving the grille a sleek look. Sure they were loud, clucky and malfunctioned after 20,000 miles, but damn they were cool. Well, Forgiato is bringing headlight doors back to the Camaro with its DiFalco Retractable Hidden Headlight Grille.
This isn’t a joke, folks. Forgiato, known more for its fine wheels than anything else, has developed a unique matte-black-finished grille that comes with brushed stainless steel accent trim and shuttered LED-accented headlight covers. In terms of its design the grille really does stand out on its own merit, thanks to a simple black mesh grille insert with the distinctive white "F" Forgiato logo. The grille treatment continues in the lower aperture with black mesh that is trimmed in white.
But the real moneymaker, as far as this retro accessory is concerned, are the headlight covers, which have been have their own horizontal LED accent lighting that is reminiscent of the first-gen cover’s horizontal chrome accents. As soon as the driver switches on the headlights, headlight covers open up, revealing the standard headlight and turn signals behind it.
The accessory will cost $3,399, a pretty price to pay, but you can rest assured that few will have a Camaro as retro-looking as yours. The DiFalco Retractable Hidden Headlight Grille is available for LS, SS, and ZL1 Camaro models.
This could be the perfect gift for a loved one that wants to add a little first-gen styling to his modern Camaro. The real question is whether you are prepared to shell out over $3K for said gift…

Back in September, Ford managed an incredible Nurburgring lap time of 7:22. No, Ford did not used an amazing supercar to perform this feat; it used the tiny Formula race car powered by the automaker’s 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine.
In an interview with the British magazine, AutoExpress, EcoBoost chief engineer, Andrew Fraser, has announced that Ford is considering a production version of this incredible high-output version of its 3-cylinder engine. Don’t go getting too excited just yet, as there is no way that this engine can reach production pumping out the 202 horsepower it did when it lapped Nurburgring.
Instead, Ford is working toward reaching the 150-horsepower mark from this tiny block. Sure, 150 ponies doesn’t sound like much, but consider the fact that this engine is small enough to move with just a pair of relatively fit people and will mount in a car that weighs next to nothing, like the Ford Fiesta. Suddenly, that 150 ponies sounds pretty appetizing again, huh?
There always has to be a "but" with these types of announcements, as, according to Fraser, the engine still needs to complete its development process and pass Ford’s rigorous testing process, which includes long-term running at temperatures ranging from -40 degrees C (-140 degrees F) to 50 degrees C (122 degrees F). With an engine as high strung as a 150-horsepower, 3-cylinder engine, that could be pretty tough.
In related news, Fraser also announced that Formula Ford received a positive feedback and that officials have asked for a limited production series of 50 units.
BMW is offering a pretty interesting alternative for those that cannot afford to buy an M3 or M5: the M Performance accessory line. This line of accessories can be applied to any Bimmer model you like and will add that sporty feeling your car may lack.
BMW is now presenting its M Performance steering wheel, which in wrapped in Alcantara, and is highlighted by carbon trim and a race display. The wheel was tested by German motorsports expert and race driver, Tim Schrick, and you can see the resulting video above. This is definitely no standard racing wheel that we’ve ever seen. It offers drivers a secure grip in extreme driving situations and tons of useful data — that’s right, a steering wheel that provides data.
The wheel is equipped with a functions display that can show you the average fuel consumption over short and long distances, and your average speed. In "Sport" mode, it shows a stopwatch, G meter — longitudinal and lateral acceleration — water and oil temperature, and it even tells you when to shift, via an LED light system. In "Race" mode, it displays lap timer, a 0-to-400-meter timer, a 1/4-mile race timer and the same LED light shift indicators that it displays in "Sport" mode
This shows exactly how innovative BMW’s engineering department really is. Who, other than Bimmer, would have ever thought of something like that?
At the 2012 SEMA Show, we got a look at a few Scion (Toyota) sponsored FR-S models featuring superchargers strapped to the tops of their 200-horsepower boxer engines. With that, we began wondering if Toyota was planning to add a supercharger to the FR-S mix and if this was a way to see how the FR-S would respond to it. Sure, Toyota played the denial game in terms of a turbocharged model, but nothing was ever said about a supercharger.
A new report from Car and Driver, following a sit down with TRD at SEMA, is showing that there is interest in adding a supercharger to the line of manufacturer-backed performance upgrades. While there is still no official confirmation, the pure fact that TRD would confirm that there is interest pretty much locks it in. Manufacturers will rarely offer up information on unconfirmed products, let alone let loose that there is an interest.
There, of course, are no specifications to release yet, as TRD is obviously still in R&D mode with this experiment. Given Toyota has to strap a warranty to this package; we wouldn’t expect to see much more than about 6 pounds of boost. While there are too many variables to be accurate on estimate output, this would likely equate out to a 60 to 70-horsepower gain from a supercharger on top of the Scion’s engine.
For now, we are simply speculating, but a 270-horsepower, supercharged FR-S sure does sound like load of fun to us! We’ll keep a very close eye on this situation and get you updates as soon as they come out.
