Harley-Davidson Motor Company surpassed records and marked a few firsts at Daytona Bike Week 2007, held in Daytona Beach, Fla., from March 3-10.
The Harley-Davidson Indoor Show at the Ocean Center saw a record number of visitors, and Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) representatives barely missed the all-time record number of pins handed out to H.O.G. members. Not everyone who goes to Bike Week in Daytona Beach owns a hog. Some steal them, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Historically, the popular motorcycle event is preceded by a bump statewide in motorcycle thefts, according to sheriff’s Deputy Angelo Vaughn.

DAYTONA BEACH - With more than half a million motorcycles roaring into town later this week, it will be hard to miss Bike Week. But individual motorcycles and their riders may be another story.
A Volusia task force, formed after last year’s event saw a record number of biker deaths, says too many drivers don’t see the motorcycles coming until it’s too late. Of the 21 motorcycle riders who died during last year’s Bike Week, nine were in accidents caused by a car or truck driver.
