Two-strokes have long overrun their glory days, but there’s still incredible potential in the cheap and old technology engines, so manufacturers such as KTM not only carry on producing dirt bikes that are powered by such engines, but continue upgrading the oil burners and mounting them on today’s refined chassis for excellent results both on the tracks and on the trails. Being part of the Top Speed team, I can only have the highest appreciation for those kinds of bikes that, with lightness, sharp handling and refinement, manage to stand out and offer the same kind of excitement as those fitted with bigger engines do. The 2009 KTM 250 XC-F is one such great example from the very big number of small class, four-stroke Japanese and European competing models.
What’s more, the 2009 model year gets a new chassis and totally new bodywork so engineers enhance the bike’s already strong point in an attempt to establish new performance standards for the class. Let’s see if they succeed.

Freestyler Travis Pastrana needs no presentation, but his latest amazing performance sure does as it goes straight in the record books. Riding his dirt bike at a fairly low speed, Pastrana manages to perform eight consecutive backflips at the minimum possible height ever. He walks away from the amazing achievement a little crumpled, but filled with joy.
Having won more than 160 World Championship titles over the past 35 years, KTM feels the need to celebrate with the launch of a limited Champion’s Edition motorcycle series that involves the new 250 XC-FW, 450 XC-W, 450 EXC and 530 EXC models.
Standing out thanks to a fresh, new and racy look, the bikes are greater performers than their 2009 model year siblings and will start being available on June 1 at KTM dealerships across the country.
They don’t mention how many units of each model will be made so we can’t
figure how “limited” the bikes are so there might just be enough for everyone.
Most of KTM’s dirt bike fans have started on this bike or at least heard that it’s the best thing – built by the Austrian manufacturer – to start on if planning to hit the motocross tracks and even compete in a few races after gaining enough experience. Not to be compared with any of the 125 cc four-strokes is the 2009 KTM 105 SX, a machine that is light, maneuverable and which benefits of the all-important two-stroke engine performance to call it a blast around the track. This is the latest Terminator Salvation trailer, one along which we can only notice the motorcycle action footage, shot to introduce viewers to the farmland loner scene and to reflect the Great Escape performed by John Conner, the main character of the movie, during the grand final. The voice over of Christian Bale (same man, real name) almost makes one feel like he’s part of the action and, by seeing the number of bikes involved, I believe you wouldn’t mind, or would you?

Some might say that two-stroke dirt bikes are dead and buried, but KTM says “Not Yet!” to that and offers a great model to back up their affirmation – the 2009 KTM 250 SX.
