2011 Ducati Diavel
After months of speculation and spy photography the long wait is almost over, the Diavel will make its first public appearance at the EICMA International Motorcycle Show in Milan 2-7 November. The name “Diavel” was inspired by the Bolognese dialect word for “devil”: One day, early in the development process of the bike, the first prototype was assembled and wheeled out in front of a group of Ducati engineers and technicians who were viewing the complete motorcycle for the first time. One person looking from the rear of the bike saw its silhouette and exclaimed in Bolognese dialect: “Ignurànt comm’ al Diavel!” Which means: “Evil, just like the devil!” The new Diavel is powered by a Ducati Testastretta 11° engine - developed directly from the incredibly powerful, world-beating race engines of Ducati Corse. With its 162hp and colossal 94lb-ft (127.5Nm) of torque, the Diavel Testastretta 11° engine is all about authentic Ducati Desmodromic performance. The revised intake and exhaust ports combined with radical adjustment of the cam timing have enabled Ducati to achieve a fantastic torque curve at low rpm, which remains strong through a wider rev-range. The increase in bottom-end torque is managed by Ducati’s Ride-by-Wire (RbW) system to considerably enhance the Diavel’s effortless ridability, while ensuring plenty of power remains on tap for high-rpm riding. The Diavel is available in two versions: Diavel priced at $16,995 and Diavel Carbon priced at $19,990 and enriched with lightweight composites and milled aluminium components that meld the two worlds of sport and style with features that are both visually beautiful and functionally high-performance. Ducati previews the 2011 range
 
With an impressive exhibition presence of approximately 400m2, stand D-040 in hall 8 of Cologne’s INTERMOT 2010 show now plays host to exciting new arrivals in the Superbike family in addition to new colours and updates for both the Streetfighter and Monster range. With new models, accessories and apparel, the Italian motorcycle manufacturer from Bologna is showing a wide range of new 2011 products at this major international show. Fans will probably be missing one of the most popular teams in the World Superbike Championships for 2011. This came about as Ducati announced last August 27th that they would not be fielding a factory team for next season’s races. According to the statement released by Ducati, the reason they are pulling out of the superbike championships is because they want to focus more on technology development for their products. They also added that, in order to further develop the latest iteration of Ducati’s bikes, they will have to pull out the resources used to manage the factory team and divert them to the company’s research and development department. In the statement, Ducati President Gabriele Del Torchio also thanked riders Noriyuki Haga and Michel Fabrizio for their participation in the team. Both Haga and Fabrizio had been with the team for almost two years. However, according to some Superbike observers, there are still several other reasons for the Italian motorcycle maker’s pullout from the competition. Hit the jump for the full story. Full story
Casey Stoner Wins It For Ducati At Aragon
Ducati is definitely back in the competition, winning the Spanish leg of the 2010 MotoGP season. And they did it with an additional bonus too, bagging third place in the race. The race was held at the Motorland Aragon circuit in Aragon, Spain on September 19th. Australian rider Casey Stoner was the hero of the hour for the Italian motorcycle manufacturer, beating hometown hero Dani Pedrosa to the checkered flag. Pedrosa came in a full five seconds behind Stoner in the finish. Completing the victory for Ducati is American Nicky Hayden, who came in third. With the win, Stoner cut down Ducati’s losing streak in the current MotoGP season. Prior to his win, Ducati was able to get a second place finish at the United States Grand Prix held at Laguna Seca in Monterey, California. The second place finish also came courtesy of Stoner. 2011 Ducati 848 EVO
Ducati unveiled today the 2011 848 Evo, the most impressive lightweight Superbike ever with more power from the Testastretta engine and more braking power. It will go on sale at a price of £9,995 for the 848 EVO Dark Stealth version (it includes the stunning new "dark stealth" paint with racing black frame and black wheels) and £10,695 for the 848 Evo. The new Ducati 848 Evo combines a 140hp engine (an increase of 6 HP over a standard 848) with the 848’s legendary (168kg) chassis set-up and planet-stopping Brembo Monobloc brakes. The new superbike will also get twin under-seat silencers, single-sided swingarm, Trellis frame, beautiful race bodywork and steering damper. The early arrival of the 2011 848 EVO will see bikes available to order from 20th July 2010, with demo bikes arriving at dealers by end of July and customer orders shipped within September. Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz are both stars in the new "Knight and Day" movie, released on June 23rd. But next to them there is another star: a Ducati Hypermotard, that is in fact an Aprilia SXV550 in disguise. Wait, what? Aprilia is being used as a stunt bike, while Ducatti is used for low-speed rides. And how the Hypermotard is just to heavy and too fragile to pull off the stunts, the team opted to an Aprilia. So why hiding an Aprilia under a Ducatti skin? Maybe because Cruise really wanted to drive a Ducatti in the movie, who knows! Knight and Day trailer after the jump. Like always before, this year’s World Ducati Week turned into a veritable party and the fun factor was increased by an organized sexy bike wash. The happy Ducatis were an 1198 and a Multistrada 1100, but you’ll see in the fairly short video after the jump that soon everybody was washing everybody. Troy Bayliss was also at Misano for a piece of the action, so you couldn’t get any better than this. Make sure you see the video as it is well worth it. It is hard to believe that someone can take the Ducati Desmosedici RR and make it better, but it happened. This is the NCR Milona 16, a lightened, upgraded and implicit faster Ducati Desmosedici RR. We wouldn’t have believed it if the thing wouldn’t have recently been unveiled at the World Ducati Week at Misano. The Italian tuning specialist has fitted the 200bhp MotoGP replica with a multitude of carbon fiber main parts such as the all-new frame and swingarm, rims, fuel tank, half-fairing, rear subframe, tail unit and front mudguard. All these, together with the titanium and aircraft-grade aluminum, reduce the bike’s dry weight to 319lbs (an impressive 71lbs less than what Ducati achieved). Using performance Ohlins suspension and Brembo brakes, NCR’s M16 turns into a much sweeter ride. Although it doesn’t go significantly over 200bhp, which is the standard bike’s horsepower figure, the retuned engine is aimed at delivering a whole different rush across the powerband. Claimed to be ‘world’s most exclusive motorcycle’, the NCR M16 will be built to order only and we don’t dare to think about the six-figure price. Ducati might not really think at building a single-cylinder naked for the crowd of beginners and motorcycle enthusiasts looking for an affordable and fuel-efficient two-wheeled commuter, but – as this sketch reveals – they don’t know what they’re missing. The concept, designed by Oberdan Bezzi and called Ducati Desmolight 450 is dedicated to all adrenaline junkies out there, so it should be sporty and versatile, just the way riders expect an Italian bike to be. Using Ducati’s distinctive styling and an entry-level approach towards the bike’s every single aspect (forget the Brembo brakes), any bike looking like that as it comes out the Borgo Panigale’s factory could really make it in the real world.
