BMW Motorrad History

BMW Motorrad History

BMW-web.tv has just released three video episodes explaining the BMW Motorrad history.

See how BMW first started by producing airplanes and then turned to motorcycles, selling the first ever R32 model five years before starting to design automobiles.

The Bavarian company proved adaptable in the critic period following the Second World War and very innovative afterwards. This lead the Germans towards great profit numbers in the propitious 1960s period, when some of their iconic models were born (mostly R series).

Enduro models from the 1970s were an instant success and that was carried on in Dakar racing as well. BMW then oriented towards high-performing and innovative street models (the K series) while carrying on with the Enduro segment as well.

See the three videos after the break.

EVA Track T-800CDI Picture Update

EVA Track T-800CDI Picture Update

The highly economic EVA Track T-800CDI has only now been the subject of a studio photo session so here is the 112mpg diesel motorcycle all waxed and smiling at the camera. Still, they added two action photos just so that people would get more excited about it, like that’s even possible. Those who are familiar to oil burners know that the unlikely engine is what makes this bike so special ;)

2009 KTM 950 Super Enduro R

KTM 950 Super Enduro R

KTM’s well established pecking order sees the 950 Super Enduro R positioned right next to the 990 Adventure models. That’s a good clue of what the bike is capable of but wait to hear about the bulletproof chassis and high performing engine before starting being amazed of what the Austrian’s could deliver. Although similar in performance, the Super Enduro R is a whole other blast compared to the Adventures simply because it was created for hardcore off-road riding while the headlight and mirrors ensure it is street legal too.

2009 KTM 990 Adventure R

KTM 990 Adventure R

2009 sees the KTM 990 Adventure not only being turned into a more powerful, torquier and slightly heavier motorcycle, but standing as the base for the brand new 2009 KTM 990 Adventure R. The Austrian brand’s R series stands for even more power than on the standard models, lighter weight and distinctive look so it’s almost like sending your bike to the tuner shop and being provided with an all around upgraded package. Still, being a production bike, exclusivity doesn’t fit in this description.

Recall issued for 2008 BMW F800 GS

Recall issued for 2008 BMW F800 GS

A problem related to the axle shaft wall thickness determined BMW of North America to recall model year 2008 F800 GS motorcycles. According to the German manufacturer, the axle shaft wall thickness may not have been manufactured according to specifications resulting into the possibility of the axle shaft to deform and increase the risk of accidents.

The correction consists in dealers inspecting the axle shaft assembly and replacing or repairing the necessary components free of charge. Although BMW has not yet started the owner notification schedule, all 2008 BMW F800 GS owners can call BMW at 1-800-831-1117 and see the solving of their possible problem from there.

Taking such a measure over a specific model does not necessarily mean that all bikes recalled are affected and that are imminent dangers riding down the streets, but that the manufacturer has a responsible approach towards their customer safety and try to exclude all possible risks of a crash due to mechanical failure.
