Stafford Springs, Connecticut speedway was the hosting venue for round six of the AMA Supermoto series. The layout of the track was fast with a nice dirt section, which was built out of sand.
Both team riders set great qualifying times for gate positions with Darryl Atkins 2nd place to KTM rider Kurt Nicol with a very small difference of .007. Ben was .700 behind Atkins. This put Atkins and Carlson in the same qualifying heat race. Atkins took his first win on the aprilia over Carlson, which put Atkins on pole, and Carlson third. When the green light lit, it was Nicol, Carlson, Atkins heading into the dirt section for the first time. As the 16 lap race counted down, both Atkins and Carlson could not find ways to move up to the top. Nicol took the checkered with Carlson 1 second behind and Atkins 1 second behind Carlson.
In the 450 class Carlson worked his way to the front and lead for two laps before losing the front end and crashing out of the race. Atkins struggled with a bad start and missing a first corner pile up, worked his way from 19th to 7th on his first 450 event of the season.
As the Aprilia team head into Nashville this weekend Carlson leads the Unlimited class by 33 points and Atkins is 2 points out of third and currently in forth position.
