The Motolive arena at the Milan Motorcycling Exhibition hosted the final of the 1st edition of the Aprilia Supermoto Cup Trophy. After Saturday’s trials, the riders raced a single heat for a last chance at victory on Sunday. The A group final (the most highly-contested as it included the brand’s best riders) saw Alessandro Tognaccini (Aprilia SXV 5.5) pull ahead of Paolo Cianfrocca (Aprilia SXV 5.5) and Marco Dondi (Aprilia SXV 4.5) in the open category (reserved to motorcycles that are not purely series). At the start, the quickest to take the lead was Tognaccini who caught up to Dondi throughout the course of the heat. With two laps left till the end, Dondi attempted to attack Tognaccini but ended up in the dirt near the tunnel, opening the door for Tognaccini who enjoyed the treat of winning in front of an international public. Dondi quickly picked himself up but not before giving up 2nd place to Cianfrocca, who pulled together a good comeback after a not-so brilliant start. The first rider in the series class to cut across the finish line was Luca Formentini (Aprilia SXV 5.5) in 7th place overall ahead of Alessandro Scalabrin (Aprilia SXV 4.5) in 10th and Gianni Viani (Aprilia SXV 5.5) in 12th.

With these results, combined with those from the three previous trials (at Jesolo, Latina, and Castelletto di Branduzzo), the winners of the first edition of the Aprilia Supermoto Cup Trophy were Paolo Cianfrocca in the open class and Alessandro Scalabrin in the series category.

The awarding of the trophy was held on the impressive Motolive stage with Massimiliano Mucchietto, the commercial director of the Aprilia Off-Road who awarded Cianfrocca and Scalabrin the 2,000 Euro towards an Aprilia SXV while the 2nd and 3rd place finishers in each class will be signed up free of charge for the 2007 supermotard edition, reserved for the Noale twins.

A special recognition was also given to the top three dealerships, Cross Parma, Libianchi, and New Valentini. At the end, a motorcycle was randomly given to one lucky participant. The winner was the Austrian Martin Adamer who brought home a flaming Aprilia SXV 5.5, given to him by the S2 International Supermoto World Champion, Thierry Van Den Bosch.

A special thanks goes out to all100 participants in this edition of the Aprilia Supermoto Cup Trophy that will return in 2007 with an even more captivating line-up. In fact, there will be a solid seven races, five at International Championship circuits, one Italian final at the Eicma, and a final European race since Aprilia trophies will also be promoted in various European nations. The best from these will then take each other on at the international super-final.
