Mika Kallio, who recently wrapped up the 125cc World Championship in second place on his KTM machine, has been named Motor Sports Personality of the Year in his home country of Finland. The voting is organized by YLE 2 TV and the annual motor sports book “Ruutulippu".
Kallio received 33.1% of the votes, defeating Enduro world champion Samuli Aro, rally driver Marcus Grönholm and Formula One driver Kimi Räikkönen.
”This is a great result for me personally but naturally also good for our sport,” Mika said. “This is a real indication that Moto GP is becoming more popular in Finland even though traditionally we have more rally and Formula One drivers.”
Next season, Mika advances to the 250 cc class in the World Championship Road Racing where he joins Hiroshi Aoyama in the KTM team.
