Mika Kallio took second place in the Valencia Grand Prix in the 125cc class before a dream backdrop of almost 130,000 motor sports enthusiasts. He wound up his season with an 11th podium place for 2006. Next season he will join Hiroshi Aoyama to ride two KTM machines in the 250cc class.

Red Bull KTM GP 125 rider Julian Simon crashed in the sixth lap while he was in eighth place. The just 19-year old Spanish rider had severe pain in his leg after the crash. He had fractured his right thigh in the seventh round of the season in Barcelona.

Red Bull ADAC KTM Junior Randy Krummenacher of Switzerland showed impressive style over the entire weekend however his deserved success eluded him. The 16-year old Swiss crashed in the fifth lap while he was lying in 15th place.

Red Bull KTM Juniors Michael Ranseder and Blake Leigh-Smith finished the hot 24-lap race in places 24 and 32.

“I’m very happy about the second place today after qualifying had been quite hard for us. For the warm up we found a better set up solution this helped to secure another second place. The race was not so easy and it was only in the second last lap I felt that it would be possible to finish second. But I knew that Gadea is very strong at Valencia but it worked out well. It is nice to finish my 125cc career with another podium; that’s what I actually wanted. I want to thank everybody at Red Bull and KTM and my team which always worked very hard to give me the best possible bike. After having raced two seasons with KTM in the 125 class I’m looking forward to my new challenge next year with the Red Bull KTM GP 250 team.“

“I tried to push and to stay with the front group. That’s why I slid of the track. Now my leg, which I broke during the Barcelona GP earlier in the season, is hurting terribly. I checked with the doctors from Clinica Mobile and they say it is ok. I’m also very disappointed to end the season with a crash."

Michael Ranseder # 9   Red Bull KTM Junior Team – 24th place

“My start was not bad and from my side I gave it everything. But like it was in training I was slipping all the time. It wasn’t possible to do any better today and I look forward to next season."

Blake Leigh-Smith # 67   Red Bull KTM Junior Team – 32nd place

“It is a shame that it didn’t work out better in qualifying. My race was a bit better than the practice, but from so far back on the grid, what do you expect? My start was actually not so bad, but I made a mistake in the middle of the race. I put in the wrong gear by accident and lost meters on the guys riding in front of me and I couldn’t catch up with them again. If I try to think of something positive for the race I have to say I did finish, as I have done with every race on the Red Bull KTM. And I want to thank KTM for giving me the opportunity to replace Stefan Bradl. I will never forget it.”

“I came out of the curve and lost the back. I had quite a good start and got away well but of course everyone wanted to go first into the first curve. I lost a few places there. Then I saw that the riders in front of me were much slower and I made an effort to overtake. I got past Cortese first and then Pablo Nieto. Then suddenly I slipped away. That’s how short a race can be. The weekend overall was good for me and I had a lot of fun. I’m all ready and prepared for my first full GP season next year."
