Troy Bayliss and Lorenzo Lanzi were both among the front-runners in the two-day Pirelli test session at the Valencia circuit in Spain on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week. It was the first outing for the two reconfirmed riders in the Ducati Xerox Team in view of next year’s championship.
Bayliss, this year’s World Superbike champion and winner of the final round of the MotoGP championship here at the end of October, set the third equal time overall with Yukio Kagayama (Suzuki) in 1m34.2s on race tyres.
Team-mate Lanzi looked even more impressive, the young Italian lapping just a shade quicker on race tyres in 1m34.1s, and even equalling Max Biaggi’s overall best test time for Suzuki of 1m33.9s on the softer rubber.
The 999 machines used by the two factory Ducati riders were factory 2006-spec but fitted with the latest electronic upgrades. The tests were held in perfect track and weather conditions.
