The meteorological conditions at Jerez de la Frontera were ideal for the last day of Irta testing. The sun, warm temperatures, and virtual lack of wind allowed the riders and teams of the 250 to try out various solutions and carry out long runs in the morning, while concentrating on pure performance in the afternoon session (reserved exclusively to them). The only hiccup on the day was Faubel’s nasty fall just five minutes from the end, coincidentally at the same point where Locatelli had his horrible accident last year. Fortunately, the Spaniard didn’t suffer any physical consequences and made it back to the box on his own two feet.
The fastest was Thomas Luthi atop the official RSA of team Emmi Caffe Latte. He stopped the chronometer with a time of 1:43.208 despite the recent surgery on his clavicle. Just one millisecond behind him was Marco Simoncelli with his Gilera and in 3rd was Alvaro Bautista atop his official RSA of team Mapfre Aspar with a 1:43.601. Three other Piaggio group captains followed; Simon, Kallio, and Aoyama atop their KTMs. It was the 7th best time for Faubel, 9th for Espargaro, 11th for Pasini, and 15th for Baldolini.
