Overview

The performance of a superbike with the agility of a naked

For lovers of naked supersports and those who always lust after "more power", Aprilia has created the Tuono V4 R ABS, a motorbike with the invincible heart of an RSV4 and a feline body designed to excel under the fiercest acceleration and braking in and to cling on through any type of bend and simply devour straight sections of road.

Tuono V4 R ABS:

The Evolution of the Superbike With Upright Handlebars

In 2009 Aprilia, revolutionised the superbike segment with the introduction of the innovative, unique RSV4 which to this day remains the benchmark. This bike won four world championship titles in the SBK series. The Tuono V4 R arrived in 2011, a direct descendant of the unbeatable RSV4. It was the most powerful, technological and sophisticated naked ever produced, the most mind-blowing, wicked and efficient machine ever created and was dedicated to those aficionados who longed for a bike that was, to put it simply, "excellent” in every way. The know-how gained from years of experience of winning at the highest level allowed Aprilia to go that bit further: the new Tuono V4 R ABS is better performing, more fun, more efficient and safer. Just one version is available. It comes with the full electronics package fitted as standard and there is a choice of two colours (black or white). The new Tuono V4 R ABS raises thesupersports bar again by also being more comfortable for road use.

Improved Comfort and Performance

The Tuono V4 R ABS is the heir to the bike acclaimed by the world motorcycling press as the naked that was the most exciting, efficient and fun to ride with a level of performance andsophistication never before seen. Not only does the new bike get all the important up-dates introduced with great success in early 2013 to the RSV4 Factory ABS and RSV4 R ABS, it also features a new saddle and a revised standard suspension set-up (fully adjustable) to improve comfort during road use. Other rider comfort changes can be seen in the new tank which now holds 18.5 litres and in pads on the side of the tank which increase feel for the rider under braking and while cornering.

V4 of 65° Engine:

Unique Engine Characteristics

Extremely compact, as slim as a twin-cylinder and installed in an ultra-compact chassis, the 65° V4 engine on the V4 R ABS is the epitome of Italian engineering ingenuity. The Tuono gives away very little to its RSV4 sibling in terms of pure performance, but in exchange offers agreater fluidity that make it more enjoyable and rewarding to ride on the road and when carrying a passenger. To achieve these results, a number of different modifications were made to the Aprilia V4 engine: new valve timing diagram, fixed intake ducts now 20 mm longer, crankshaft flywheel with increased inertia for improved smoothness and overall balance, shortened gear ratios for the first three gears and engine speed at maximum power reduced to 11,500 rpm Thanks to triple mapping selectable directly from the handlebar, the character of the bike can be modified to suit the rider's personal riding style or the track conditions at any time.

• T-TRACK: no compromise. All 170 CV of power available at the slightest twist of the throttle.

• S-SPORT: maximum fun on the open road. Smooth power delivery across the rev band for fun yet less demanding riding.

• R-ROAD: usability in all conditions. Smooth delivery and power attenuated by 25% across the rev range. Greater usability in all conditions. Ideal for the city or wet road conditions.

Brembo M432 monobloc calipers:

State-of-the-Art Frame

The aluminium racing type frame and swingarm provide a perfect balance of torsional and flexional stiffness, superb dynamic equilibrium and efficiency as well as exceptional stability and directionality for optimum rider feel. The mind-blowing new naked from Aprilia comes equipped with the best components available on the market such as the Brembo M432 front brake system with radial calipers, aluminium wheels with an all-new three spoke design weighing 2 Kg less than the five spoke version, fully adjustable Sachs upside down front fork with 43 mm stanchions and one-by-one technology, a Sachs shock absorber with separate piggy back nitrogen canister featuring adjustable spring preload, compression and rebound damping and length, to modify the set-up of the bike to suit different riding styles, roads and loads - including a passenger! The choice of dual-compound tyres is also new, with three different sizes approved for the rear wheel: the 190/55 tyre fitted as standard can be replaced by a 200/55 or a 190/50 tyre to explore the full performance potential of the bike - even on the track.

aPRC Technology:

Maximum Efficiency and Pleasure to Ride

Fitted with a steering damper as standard and the second generation aPRC dynamic control system to assist the rider in achieving maximum performance. This includes:

• aTC with 8 settings that range from those for conservative use on the road to full on race mode

• aWC, specially adapted for the weight of the Tuono V4, with 3 settings to manage the most extreme wheelie conditions yet gradually set the rear tyre back on the road or track ;

• aQS for ultra-fast gear shifting without closing the throttle or using the clutch.

• aLC for lightning fast take offs. Simultaneously pressing both buttons on the joystick on the left hand handlebar arms the system, as confirmed by the specific message on the display. From this moment on, all 170 horsepower of the beast from Noale are ready to slingshot the Tuono V4 R ABS like a missile as soon as the rider releases the clutch.

On the Aprilia RSV4 R ABS, the aPRC system has been further developed: it now integrates even better with the full Ride by Wire electronic multi-map V4 engine management system to meet the specific needs of both road users and professional race riders. The performance of the system provides smoother power delivery for improved high speed cornering but does not penalise traction on exiting low speed bends. In addition to this second generation APRC, the Tuono V4 R also adopts a highly advanced ABS multi-map system that ensures not justmaximum safety on the road but even better performance on the track.

Aggressiveness Design:

Supersport Design

With its 65° V4 engine unashamedly flaunted and framed by the brushed aluminium elements of the twin spar frame, the Tuono V4 is a naked clad in only the bare necessities. Adding yet another touch of aggressiveness is the aerodynamic new top fairing tipped with two polyelliptical headlights and LED indicators. The Tuono V4 R ABS maintains a clear parentage with the five times SBK world championship winning RSV4 in the proportions of the tail fairing, saddle, tank and side panels, and is one of the best examples of Italian motorcycle design from the past decade for its perfect balance between formal beauty and function.

The most obvious aesthetic change on the V4 R ABS is the new fuel tank which has been modified not just to facilitate positioning the ABS but also to improve range and rider comfort. The tank capacity is now 18.5 litres (was 17) and pads on the side of the tank provide increased feel for the rider under braking and while cornering. This solution was taken directly from the RSV4s that race in the Superbike series.

The original design of the saddle, which is generously sized and specifically shaped to comfortably accommodate a passenger, blends perfectly with the style of the side fairings and tail fairing. From the vantage point of the saddle and with the broad tapered handlebars firmly in your grip, you immediately notice the intuitive joystick for rapidly accessing and adjusting the functions of the second generation electronic dynamic control suite developed by Aprilia to let the rider explore the physical limits of riding.
