The 2012 Husqvarna TC250 was developed using Husqvarna’s experience gained at the World MX2 Championship. The collaboration between the factory R&D technicians and the Ricci Racing team resulted into significant upgrades made to the engine and the mechanical design.

The motorcycle’s DOHC, 4-valve liquid-cooled, 49.5cc engine now features a modern design and is the most compact and lightest in its category. Among the numerous upgrades made to the new engine we want to note the completely redesigned twin cam valve train which comes with four titanium valves and a different piston.

The injection has also been completely changed, while the electronic ignition and the exhaust are new too.

Moreover, stability and maneuverability are improved by the new Kayaba monoshock with externally adjustable damping (high/low speed compression and rebound). The fork is also Kayaba and the preload has been changed to a firmer setting.

Engine

The Husqvarna 250 cc four-stroke engine is a very modern design, and remains the most compact and lightest in its category. But when you want to provide the best, you can never rest on your laurels. So our engineers radically redesigned the layout and changed numerous suppliers. The improved performance of the new TC250 engine is the fruit of these radical changes. First of all the twin cam valve train was completely redesigned! With a totally new design, four titanium valves and a different piston, the increase in power and torque is considerable: more horsepower reaches the wheels.

The injection has also been completely changed (now Keihin, with 46 mm throttle body), the electronic ignition is Kokusan, and the exhaust is new too. It comes fitted with ‘Power Bomb’ on the manifold and silencer from the specialists, Akrapovic.

Suspension

The steel frame is made of tubing with a variety of cross sections, strengthened and made more rigid with new plates (chrome-moly 25CrMo4 steel) at the steering-head. Stability and manoeuvrability are noticeably improved by the new monoshock, now a Kayaba, with externally adjustable damping (high/low speed compression and rebound). The fork is also Kayaba (leg diameter 48 mm) and the preload has been changed to a firmer setting. The new 2012 version of the TC250 has also had an aesthetic makeover, the frame is now black, InMould graphics (integrated into the plastic and absolutely resistant to washing), and anodised silver rims.

ABS

The high point of ABS development for motorcycles as it currently stands is the new BMW Motorrad Race ABS, developed for the supersports bike S 1000 RR. The rider can press a button to select engine characteristics including the relevant Race ABS characteristics for a range of conditions such as a wet surface ("Rain"), road ("Sport"), race track with supersports tyres ("Race") and race track with slicks ("Slick"). These are combined with the various modes and are mutually harmonised for maximum safety. In this individually adaptable rider assistance system, the rider himself selects the level of support to be provided. For example, unwanted early intervention of ABS while riding in sporty style is now a thing of the past.

The new BMW Motorrad Race ABS is a completely newly developed system which is significantly lighter than previous part integral systems. With a control unit weighing just 1.5 kg and a total weight of just 2.5 kg, it is ideally suited for use in supersports motorcycles. But in addition to weight the system especially provides even further improved regulation response.

In addition to an excellent set-up, the main reason for this is the use of a total of four pressure sensors which operate with a very sophisticated rear wheel lift detection system to distinguish even more effectively than before between a bump and a locking rear wheel. In "Race" and "Slick" modes, the rear wheel lift detection function does not interfere with the rider's desire to brake. In this way, the "Slick" mode allows particularly skilled riders to perform so-called brake drifts without having to do without the benefits of a front wheel ABS.

Developed at World Championship Level

The return of Husqvarna to the MX World Championship has already produced its first results. The experience gained at the World MX2 Championship has now been incorporated into the new Husqvarna 2012 model TC250. The collaboration between the factory R&D technicians and the Ricci Racing team led to the development of important updates, which bring the TC250 to the top of its category. Both to the engine – a real jewel at only 22 kg! - and the mechanical design, and all modifications which will be immediately appreciated by riders of every level and experience. Just try it.

Quotes

Motorcycle-USA----"To complement the re-vamped motor, the chassis got a going over as well starting with the frame. An all-new chromoly frame has an increased tensile strength that creates a stiffer frame with the aid of reinforcements at the steering head. Gone is the Sachs rear shock that no-one seemed to like, having been replaced by a Kayaba unit that balances out the ride with the front 48mm closed-cartridge KYB fork. "

Ultimate Motorcycling----"Husqvarna says "The new piston is lighter and freer-revving, and operates inside a cylinder head whose design originated in F1 development. Updated valve finger followers are also F1-type, and now DLC- (diamond-like carbon) coated for a long lifespan and silky-smooth operation.""
