The Honda Gold Wing was designed with fresh styling cues that combine the bike’s premium touring visage with a sporty profile. The redesigned fairing adds extra wind protection in the event of high-speed joyriding. Large saddlebags have also been added to the Gold Wing, with approximately 7 liters of additional storage space, increasing the bike’s total storage capacity to an impressive 150 liters. Meanwhile, the seats and Urethane cover material are the sure signs of comfort. Other pertinent design features of the Gold Wing include five-position heated grips for cold-weather riding, five-position heated seat/backrest combinations with individual rider and passenger controls for optimum comfort, and a foot-warming system that releases engine-heated air over the rider’s feet. There’s also a specially designed luggage that comes with a remote-control key lock, an instrument panel that displays all the pertinent information, including a speedometer, tachometer, coolant temperature and fuel level, plus adjustable backlighting and high-luminescence white pointers. A high-resolution LCD housed in a separate module is visible in all lighting conditions and displays the odometer, A/B tripmeter, ambient temperature, audio modes, CB, rear-suspension setting, trunk/saddlebag-open indicators, and clock.

The Gold Wing is powered by a fuel-injected 1,832cc six-cylinder engine with a parallel two-valve cylinder-head design and a pair of 40mm-diameter throttle bodies deliver air to six specially designed Keihin 50-psi high-pressure programmed fuel injectors. The fuel that makes the bike run is delivered through four nozzle holes found in each injector and produces a highly combustible atomized fuel mixture for premium efficiency and power. Likewise, the bike’s ECU comes with two digital 3-D fuel-injection maps for each cylinder, creating just the right type of fuel mixture and spark advance settings that provide unmatched ride-ability. Then there are the two side-mounted radiators that further enhance the bike’s cooling efficiency while the stainless-steel 6-into-2 exhaust system provides the ear-piercing sound traveling down the highway.
Brakes and Suspension
The body of the Gold Wing is made up of a Twin-Spar aluminum frame with a unique Pro Arm rear suspension. This is combined with dual full-floating 296mm front discs with a Combined Braking System (CBS), three-piston calipers, and a single ventilated 316mm rear disc with one CBS three-piston caliper, providing outstanding braking power to the lightweight cast-aluminum 18" front and 16" rear wheels. The Gold Wing also comes equipped with ABS, featuring an electric-motor-driven modulator to provide the kind of rapid and precise braking-pressure adjustments that result in smooth ABS operation. The system incorporates an integrated ECU, self-diagnostics with an interactive ECU test function, and automatic protection against system failure. Meanwhile, the Pro-Link Rear Suspension adds a new shock set-up with revised suspension settings for enhanced ride compliance while the computer-controlled adjustable hydraulic rear suspension preload can be easily set by the rider with push-button controls.
