Forged from Husanberg’s will to build the supreme 450 cc dirt bike, the FE 450 features an unstoppable character, a sporty design language and a capable engine. Talking about the engine, the 2013 Husaberg FE 450 is propelled by a 1 cylinder 4 stroke, water-cooled unit which is paired with a six speed transmission and a wet multi-disc clutch.

The 2013 Husaberg FE 450 received a newly developed double-cradle, central tube frame made from chrome-molybdenum steel profiles which ensure high levels of torsional stiffness. The frame is linked to a perfectly balanced aluminum swing arm which is 300 g lighter than its predecessor.

Up front, the motorcycle is equipped with a 48 mm 4CS closed-cartridge fork from WP SUSPENSION, while out back there is a modern shock absorber adjustable for rebound damping and high and low-speed compression damping.

Overview

State-of-the-art 4-stroke technology, perfectly packaged in an ultra-light and manoeuvrable enduro chassis. Ferocious, but nevertheless controllable power for the 2013 HUSABERG FE 450, even at low revs - with perfect application. And when you give the revs free rein, every long climb and obstacle becomes a cakewalk. Because there's only one goal and that's to get even further.

Forward Motion

Cylinder head

Good becomes even better. The basis for the design of the SOHC cylinder head was provided by the existing FE 450 and FE 570 engines. However, all ducts and the combustion chamber are completely new. A new camshaft has also been developed for each displacement, which opens the 4 valves (made from titanium on the intake side) via rocker arms. The objective of the engineers was to develop each engine with perfect characteristics for enduro use, coupled with top performance. Some things just cannot be improved upon. As before, the cylinder head cover mounted at an angle simplifies service work.

Cylinder and piston

The 2013 HUSABERG FE 450 is equipped with a new cylinder with a 95 mm bore, which has been specially designed for the new engine configuration. A new, 40 g lighter, mechanically actuated timing-chain tensioner ensures reliable and low-noise guiding of the chain. The new, 15% lighter, forged piston contributes significantly to the low vibration level of the new engine and guarantees a high degree of durability. Nitrided piston rings ensure highest levels of resistance to wear.

Starter

As on its predecessor, the new FE 450 engine is equipped with an extremely reliable electric starter, although the starter motor is now even smaller and lighter. The new engine can also be retrofitted with a kickstarter, thereby increasing engine weight by approx. 1.5 kg.

Clutch

As in the FE 350 engine, a compact and extremely robust clutch, featuring space-saving hub damping, is also installed in the large four-strokes from HUSABERG. This provides a clear advantage in terms of traction and gearbox durability. The clutch is equipped with a wear-free steel cage plus 8 lining discs and utilises a diaphragm spring instead of conical springs to preload the package. In conjunction with the hydraulic clutch actuation system from Brembo, this results in minimum operating force.

Lubrication

The new engine generation has been provided with an optimised oil circuit featuring two oil pumps, which continues to ensure optimum lubrication of the whole engine on the 2013 HUSABERG FE 450.

Engine case

Enduro riding is tough enough already, so the case of the FE 450 is now 1.5 kg lighter. Wall thicknesses have been substantially reduced by the die-casting process. An elastic yet high-strength aluminium alloy, used for the first time here, ensures resistance to damage.

Balancer shaft

The laterally positioned balancer shaft serves as a drive for the water pump and a counterbalance right up to the highest engine speeds. The moving masses of piston and crankshaft have been radically reduced.

Engine Management System (EMS)

Correct settings are all-important. The KEIHIN EMS with a 42 mm throttle body ensures excellent performance from the bottom right up to the highest revs. The map-select switch and user-setting tool are available from the Pure Tech range.

Framework

Frame

A newly developed double-cradle, central tube frame made from chrome-molybdenum steel profiles ensures high levels of torsional stiffness. Precise cornering characteristics and high tracking stability are the result of this design. Shocks originating from the rear wheel are absorbed even better thanks to reduced levels of lateral stiffness.

Swingarm

A perfectly balanced aluminium design: The swingarm is 300 g lighter and, with its higher side profiles, it boosts the frame and shock suspension system with targeted flexibility.

Subframe

All supporting parts of the rear end of the FE 450 are made from high strength, injection-moulded plastic. The three elements are bolted together and link perfectly with the surrounding bodywork. The ribbing and toughness of the material allow the highest levels of stability to be achieved at a minimum weight for all the HUSABERG enduro models.

Triple clamp

Meticulously finished triple clamps, machined from a solid block: Not only do they look classy in anodised black; they are also designed in such a way that they support the responsiveness and sliding behaviour of the new fork with their special shaping. The result? Even better handling of the 2013 HUSABERG FE 450.

Outdoor Engineering

Fork

Very finest enduro technology: the 48 mm 4CS closed-cartridge fork from WP SUSPENSION. This fork overcomes extremely rutted tracks and other such major obstacles with the greatest of ease. Developed in close collaboration with the factory team, the patented 4-chamber system (4CS) from WP provides a decisive advantage in terms of responsiveness and constant damping. Another benefit: servicing the fork is extremely easy.

Wheels

Wheels with CNC-machined hubs, high-end DID rims and new aluminium spoke nipples. An unbeatable weight advantage for the 2013 HUSABERG FE 450.

Exhaust system

New look. With its more modern, larger profile, the silencer reduces noise levels to the legally required standard (max. 112 dB(A) at 2 metres).

Brakes

Extremely precise application and excellent braking performance. That is exactly what you get from the BREMBO®brakes and lightweight wave brake discs of the HUSABERG FE 450.

PDS suspension

The shock absorber has settings tuned individually to the new frame and each displacement, guaranteeing comfort and optimal suspension. Adjustable rebound damping and high and low-speed compression damping allow individual adaptation of the suspension to the terrain and rider.

Perfect Ergonomics

Bodywork

Enduro riding means becoming one with your bike. The completely revamped seat and tank/spoiler profile lets machine and rider fuse into one. However, the FE 450 not only excels with enduro-specific ergonomics, but also with such technical highlights as grip recesses well protected from dirt.

Air box

There are two good arguments for the new air box: optimum protection from dirt and an adequate air supply to the engine. A separate intake snorkel has been developed for each displacement to optimise airflow, thereby ensuring maximum engine performance. The generously sized TWIN AIR filter is replaced conveniently in a matter of seconds via the air box side cover and with no tools at all, of course.

Equipment

Not only the technology, but also the equipment on the HUSABERG FE 450 leave nothing to be desired. Fan, skid plate and hand guards are standard on all 4-stroke models of the 2013 model range, as is riding pleasure. But for those who want even more, there's the Pure Tech accessory range.

Fuel tank

The polyethylene fuel tank with enduro-friendly ergonomics is the perfect point of contact with the bike on the 2013 FE models. 9.5 l capacity allows extended enduro tours to be completed comfortably.
