The International Six Days Enduro is the world’s largest enduro competition. KTM’s motorcycles were always among the best performers in this competition and every year the company proves its value wining various titles. To be able to withstand the punishment of this tough race, KTM’s enduro motorcycles receive a special treatment which helps them finish the race with success. One of these special models is the KTM 500 EXC Six Days. The bike comes with a complete package of high-quality special options which make it ready for the contest. The KTM 500 EXC Six Days is built on a light yet stiff frame made from high quality, lightweight, chrome-molybdenum steel profiles. Despite the fact that the frame is not made of aluminum (like most of KTM’s rivals) it still weighs 0.5 kg less than its lightest competitor. Other features include a new generation 4CS closed-cartridge fork from WP Suspension, full rear brake disc (no slots/holes), exhaust silencer with Six Days logo and a quick-release spindle at the front. Hit the jump for more information on the KTM 500 EXC Six Days. OVERVIEWThe 500 EXC is "READY TO RACE " for the world’s largest enduro competition, the "International Six Days Enduro". Six days in succession, over a thousand offroad kilometres, 40 hours in the saddle - a gruelling test, not only for the rider. A whole package of high-quality special options makes the KTM 500 EXC 2013 fit for this ruthless contest, in which more than half the starters bank on KTM every year. 500 EXC Six Days - only authentic with the orange powder-coated frame of the KTM Factory Team. SIX DAYS EQUIPMENT
FRAMEIn keeping with KTM tradition, the frames are made from high quality, lightweight, chrome-molybdenum steel profiles. In conjunction with the rear PDS damping system, they are designed for optimum absorption of shocks introduced into the frame by the rear wheel. In response to the trend for aluminium frames followed by our rivals, we supply a high-tech steel frame that weighs approx. 0.5 kg less than the lightest competitor. Moreover, it’s easier to maintain, work on it is simpler and it provides more space for the fuel tank and other components. INDIVIDUAL SUSPENSION SETTINGEach EXC model has its own individual suspension settings, optimally tuned to weight and engine. At the rear, a PDS shock absorber from WP Suspension works with a direct linkage to the upper side of the swingarm. The wide range of setting options for rebound damping and high- and low-speed compression damping are standard on KTM bikes. FORKThe KTM Six Days models are equipped with a completely redesigned, 48 mm closed-cartridge fork from WP Suspension. The new 4-chamber technology (4CS) patented by WP not only provides a key benefit in terms of responsiveness and consistent damping characteristics, it is also lighter and oil services prove to be far simpler than on the conventional closed-cartridge versions. This fork overcomes extremely rutted tracks and other such major obstacles with the greatest of ease. Another benefit: The fork can be adapted to track and rider in a matter of clicks at the top of the fork: compression damping on the left-hand shaft, rebound damping on the right. NEW WHEELSThe high quality KTM wheels with CNC-machined hubs are standard on KTM bikes. The new, extremely stable, 7050 aluminium rims from GIANT now bear exclusive 6Days lettering. New MAXXIS FIM tyres - specially developed for KTM - provide excellent traction, very precise directional control and a long service life. TRIPLE CLAMPMeticulously finished triple clamps machined from a solid block are fitted to all Six Days models. Not only do they look classy in anodised orange; above all, they are designed in such a way that they support the responsiveness and sliding behaviour of the new fork and ultimately have a positive effect on the entire handling. BRAKESBrakes from Brembo® are standard equipment on KTM offroad bikes and, together with lightweight wave brake discs, they are recognised as the measure of all things in terms of application and brake performance. The further refined rear brake cylinder has a new internal mechanism that ensures less wear at the rubber seal and therefore greater durability. BODYWORKThe KTM 500 EXC Six Days has bodywork with extremely slim ergonomics and excellent contact points between rider and machine. It provides unlimited freedom of movement. For MY 2013, the bike stands out with newly styled graphics in the colours of the ISDE in Germany. CLUTCHThe one-piece outer clutch hub with primary gear is machined from a single piece of high-strength steel. Unbeatable reliability is the result. It also allows the use of thin steel discs. This results in an extremely compact construction for a narrow engine width. A diaphragm spring enables the implementation of an additional hub damping mechanism - an invaluable benefit in terms of traction and gearbox durability. In conjunction with the diaphragm spring, the hydraulic clutch actuation system from Brembo ensures very smooth and very precise clutch control. CYLINDER HEADThe SOHC cylinder head is equipped with an overhead camshaft that actuates the titanium intake valves and steel exhaust valves. The whole configuration has been perfectly tuned to the Keihin EFI system for outstanding rideability and performance of the KTM 500 EXC Six Days. BALANCER SHAFTThrough ingenious design work, KTM engineers succeeded in developing a small laterally positioned balancer shaft that also acts as a drive for the water pump. SPECIFICATIONS
