Thanks to its top notch built quality and first class performances, the KTM 450 SMR is one of the most wanted Supermotos in its class. The motorcycle weighs 110.2 kg (dry) and at its heart sits a 449.3 cc, single cylinder, 4 stroke, SOHC, 4 valve engine which is mated to a five speed gearbox with APTC slipper clutch.
The motorcycle also features a Keihin engine management system, with electronic fuel injection and 44 mm throttle body that delivers spontaneous responsiveness and maximum engine performance.
The engine is housed by a lightweight frame made of chrome-molybdenum steel section tubes. The frame was especially designed to enhance the bike’s agility so its offers a perfect compromise between longitudinal and torsional stiffness.
You also get a set of modern WP suspensions, strong single disc brakes and a lightweight, polyethylene, 7.5 litre fuel tank.

Overview
KTM 450 SMR: Extra Hot
The new KTM 450 SMR has to be the hottest Supermoto that money can currently buy. A further refined, ultra-stable chassis, finest WP suspension components, high-tech brakes and the revamped SOHC engine make the 450 SMR an invincible weapon in every Supermoto race.
2014 KTM 450 SMR Features and Benefits:
Superior chassis:
Swingarm
The cast aluminium swingarm has been developed with state-of-the-art calculation and simulation software and constructed, in terms of design and wall thickness, for minimum weight with optimum stiffness and precisely defined flexibility. For the 2014 model year, our engineers have revised the chainguide for the benefit of higher functional reliability, while simultaneously reducing the weight.
• Reinforced chainguide attachment points --> greater safety
• Revised chainguide --> weight reduction (120 grams)
Frame
The modern frame design of lightweight, high strength, chrome-molybdenum steel section tubes guarantees an ideal mix of longitudinal and torsional stiffness, resulting not only in easy handling and precise steering behaviour, but also in excellent ride stability.
Suspension
The 48 mm upside-down closed-cartridge fork from WP at the front and the fully adjustable WP shock at the rear have been specially tuned for Supermoto use. The taut basic setup ensures perfect stability and superlative traction.
Professional performance potential:
Engine
With a huge amount of innovative technology, KTM is clearly setting the standard in production Supermotos. Equipped with a state-of-the-art electronic fuel injection system, the SOHC engine excels with vigorous power development and unrivalled performance. It springs into life at the press of a button thanks to an electric starter and is equipped with a 5-speed transmission and a slipper clutch, both specially designed for Supermoto.
Engine case
Manufactured in a die-casting process, the engine case has been further refined for the 2014 model year. It has been possible to further reduce weight compared with its predecessor by eliminating the kickstarter dome.
• Omission of the kickstarter dome --> weight saving of 300 grams
Cylinder head
In the cylinder head of the 450 SMR engine, an overhead camshaft actuates four ultra-light titanium valves via extremely stiff, DLC-coated rocker arms on the intake side. This configuration allows engine speeds of over 11,500 rpm to be achieved and makes a major contribution to the unique performance of the KTM engine. A new, three-layer, cylinder head gasket has been fitted for the 2014 model year, which guarantees even greater durability in the most extreme conditions. Furthermore, the auto-decompression mechanism has been strengthened.
• New, three-layer, cylinder head gasket --> even greater durability in the most extreme conditions
• Revamped auto-decompressor --> greater durability
Engine Management System (EMS)
In conjunction with the revolutionary injector position developed by KTM, the Keihin engine management system, with electronic fuel injection and 44 mm throttle body, ensures spontaneous responsiveness and maximum engine performance. The wiring harness on the 450 SMR has been further simplified for the 2014 model year and the quality of cables and plugs improved. Many connectors are now enclosed in new rubber grommets to protect them from steam-jet pressure. Various engine characteristics can also still be selected via the EMS, with a map-select switch available as a PowerPart. Furthermore, a user-setting tool (also available as an option) allows data to be read from the bike by laptop and the mapping, ignition and fuel injection to be modified in a matter of a few mouse clicks.
• Revised wiring harness --> optimised cable routing
Slipper clutch
The APTC slipper clutch precisely prevents the rear wheel from chattering, therefore improving control when drifting into corners. The hydraulic clutch actuation system from Brembo, with new clutch armature, ensures smooth and very precise clutch control.
• New clutch master cylinder with shot-blasted aluminium surface and black cover --> sportier look
Ready for racing:
Triple clamps
High quality, CNC-machined triple clamps have long since been standard equipment at KTM. They ensure precise handling and provide a perceptible boost to the flexing characteristics and hence the responsiveness of the telescopic fork. For MY 2014, the CNC-machined triple clamp has been widened and the front axle extended. This ensures even greater ride stability. The fork offset is 16 mm.
Exhaust
The extremely lightweight titanium exhaust header and the innovative "Header Pipe Resonator System“ (HPRS), in conjunction with the new silencer, guarantee even greater performance at further reduced noise levels.
Brakes
"Ready to Race" brake technology also makes the 450 SMR even more commanding heading into every corner: A new front brake system from Brembo, featuring a radially mounted four-piston fixed calliper in combination with a floating 310 mm disc from Braking, ensures even better and more controllable deceleration. At the rear, a single-cylinder brake calliper with 220 mm disc takes control.
Bodywork
KTM engineers have focussed on designing the bodywork ergonomically and functionally in such a way that the whole motorcycle is in perfect harmony with the rider down to the very last detail.
Fuel tank
The 450 SMR is equipped with a new, lightweight, polyethylene, 7.5 litre fuel tank, which has been revised in the area of the filler cap internal thread and can be closed even more easily and reliably with a new filler cap.
• New fuel tank --> new, easy-closing filler cap
Seat
The ergonomically perfectly designed seat is equipped with an improved foam core for the 2014 model year, ensuring both greater comfort and higher stability.
• Optimised foam core --> greater comfort, better padding stability
Cooling system
The tried and tested, integrated cooling system transports the coolant from the cylinder head through the frame triangle directly to the aluminium radiators made by WP. The consequent lack of piping simplifies radiator installation and improves air flow beneath the fuel tank.
Airbox
At the same time, the design of the airbox guarantees optimum protection of the air filter from dirt plus maximum air throughput for the highest performance. Quick replacement of the twin-air filter - without tools and in a matter of seconds - has long since been an unrivalled KTM standard.
Handlebar
The 450 SMR is equipped with the black-anodised Renthal Fatbar 827 handlebar that features an offset specially designed to meet the demands of supermoto. In accordance with the proven KTM standard, the handlebar can be fixed in a choice of four positions. A large Renthal crash pad, still in classy black/silver for 2014, provides the rider with effective impact protection.
• New bar pad --> effective impact protection, attractive appearance
