Meet 2013 Ural M70 Retro, an old school sidecar that was especially created for long journeys. Unlike the tough Ural Patrol which is a capable all-terrain bike, the M70 Retro isn’t fitted with two wheel drive traction because is intended for road use only. The company says that it is the “most road friendly model” in its lineup.

In terms of style the Ural M700 shares the same classic look as its siblings and draws inspiration from the original M72.

Power comes from a 749 cc, OHV, air-cooled, 4 stroke, opposed twin cylinder engine which delivers a maximum output of 40 hp at 5600 rpm and 38 ft-lbs of torque at 4600 rpm.

The 2013 Ural M70 Retro is available in Olive Drab powdercoat.

Overview

The 2013 Ural M70 Retro is the most road friendly model in the Ural line-up. Telescopic forks, a lower overall height, and 18” wheels take the typical multi-purpose nature of a Ural and amplify its on-road capabilities. This isn’t to say that the 2013 Ural M70 Retro loses any of its potent fire road ability. In fact the reviews say otherwise.

The looks of the 2013 Ural M70 Retro are inspired by the original M72 and the wild success of the M70 Anniversary Edition . Ural always favors function defining the form, so there is nothing extra, nothing unnecessary. The end result is a streamlined street bike—equipped with a sidecar—capable of delivering many road-going adventures.

Marzocchi & Brembo

Since the 2013 Ural M70 Retro is intended for road use only, we chose traditional Marzocchi telescopic forks for the 2013 specification. With a different frame and lower clearance, the design is as true to what we think a retro bike should look like.

Verdict

The Ural M70 Retro may look like a bike from another era, but under it vintage skin you’ll find enough contemporary components to earn it the right to be called a modern motorcycle.

Among them you’ll find Brembo brakes, Marzocchi telescopic forks and Sachs hydraulic shock absorbers. You also get a fairly reliable Boxer engine which cranks out enough power to propel the motorcycle to a maximum speed of 65 mph.

Unlike many modern motorcycles the Ural M70 Retro features pretty basic mechanics, so if anything goes wrong you can fix it pretty easy if you’re that type of rider who isn’t afraid to get its hands dirty.

The riding experience is a bit bouncy and rudimentary. On the other hand the brakes work great and the handling is also pretty decent given its strange configuration. The price however is a bit peppered from our point of view.
