Design

Among the new features included in the Yamaha FJR1300A are heated grips that come standard on the FJR1300A, offering riders even more convenience whenever they're out on the road. Apart from that, expect the usual bells and whistles to come with the Yamaha sports tourer, including a light-and-rigid aluminum frame, sportbike running gear, standard hard sidebags, a pushbutton adjustable windscreen, and a thick and comfortable seat for two perfectly suited for long-distance riding.

An instrument panel also comes standard on the FJR13000A, containing all the useful information you'll need on your rides, including an electronic analog speedometer and tachometer; an LCD digital odometer; dual tripmeters; gear position indicator; fuel, coolant, air temperature gauges, and clock; and lights for neutral, high beam, turn signals, low oil, and engine warnings—as well as real-time mileage, average mileage, and air temperature.

Performance

The Yamaha FJR1300A comes with a compact, lightweight 1298cc, DOHC, 16-valve, liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder engine that delivers power and torque for an unequaled spread of muscle over a wide rpm range. There's also a curved radiator with custom ducking and twin-ring cooling fans to help keep both the engine and the cockpit cool.

Lightweight forged pistons with carburized connecting rods are also included, providing the kind of superb strength and reduced reciprocating mass to help keep high-rpm durability and performance. With the engine also comes a constant-mesh five-speed transmission that utilizes wide ratios to deliver relaxed long-distance touring performance combined with seamless power and acceleration. Then there's the four-into-one-into-two stainless-steel exhaust which optimizes engine performance across the powerband while the wet-sump oil system uses an easy-access cartridge-type oil filter mounted on the engine’s left side.

Chassis and Suspension

The Yamaha FJR1300A features plenty of unique features on the overall casing of the bike, including sharp-looking bodywork and an air-management system to keep the bike and rider cooler. There's also a central vent beneath the instrument panel that cools the rider and reduces negative pressure for less buffeting, and fairing side panels with 1.2-inch adjustability let the rider direct airflow. A long swingarm then provides even better ride and handling characteristics. The bike also carries a Unified Braking System with ABS with the front brake lever activating six of the eight front braking pistons. Meanwhile, the rear brake pedal activates two rear pistons and the other two front pistons provide balanced anti-lock braking in all conditions.
