If you love the new Yamaha MT-07, but you consider it a bit too strong for your riding skills or you are too young for its power output, than we have a great news for you.

The Japanese manufacturer decided to offer a free 48hp restrictor kit for its model which makes it eligible for A2 motorcycle licences.

Yamaha’s decision comes as a response to the new 2013 EU regulations which forbid to riders aged 19 or 20 to ride motorcycles that are stronger than 48 hp, so they get only an A2 licence. The A2-compliant motorcycles must have a power output of 48 hp and a power-to-weight ratio of 0.27 hp per kg.

Without the restrictor kit, the Yamaha MT-07’s 689cc, 2-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, 4-valves engine generates a maximum output of 55.0 kW (74.8PS) at 9,000 rpm and 68.0 Nm (6.9 kg-m) of torque at 6,500 rpm.

As we’ve mentioned above, the restrictor kit is offered for free for all new MT-07s but if you want to install it on a used model then you will have to pay £124.99 (€149).

The motorcycle has a base price of r £5,199 (€6,200) and if you want the ABS version you will have to pay £400 (€477) more.

Next week, Yamaha will reveal its new Tricity three wheeler which will be powered by a 125 cc engine. The new scooter will be based on the three wheeled concept presented by the company in 2013.

Yamaha’s new three wheeler will be lighter than the other models in its class and will also feature a more ergonomic design.

Compared to a conventional scooter, a three wheeler is easier to handle and offers a better stability. Moreover it should also deliver pretty similar levels of efficiency, so the new model has the potential to become a success for the Japanese manufacturer.

The new model will go on sale at the end of 2014, but for the moment, we don’t have any details about the price.

To spice things up before the launch, Yamaha released a teaser video of its upcoming model in which we can also see a pretty detailed look at the company’s second world premiere, namely the all-new 300 cc sport motorcycle which replaces the old 250 cc model.
