Fifth Gear offroad competition between Tiff and Vicky

Experienced Dakar racer Simon Pavey, who trained Charley Boorman and Ewan McGregor for their adventures around the world, puts Fifth Gear stars Tiff and Vicky through an offroad series of motorcycle challenges.

The bike of choice was the GX650 model from BMW in the case it even matters considering the muddy conditions. But despite the harsh treatment that the weather prepared for them, the two made it proudly with nothing but dirty equipment.

2009 Kawasaki KLX140/KLX140L

Kawasaki successfully tries to make the KLX140 and KLX140L feel, look and perform like full-sized off-road bikes that should never miss a chance to make a great impression out on the terrain which they were built to conquer. And because they’re still destined to kids and teenagers, they stand as smooth translations between mini bikes and the real thing.

Not quite the way to use an off-road bike

Holly cow…sheep or whatever. Please don’t learn anything from this picture and, I insist, keep the kids away. It’s better for them not to see and for you not to be needed to give answers to their questions.

2009 Honda CRF80F

honda crf80f picture

The CRF80F is the first machine in Honda’s lineup which introduces young riders to a manual clutch, a five-speed gearbox and the big-bike feel. The reasons of its existence are very simple: first, there’s competition and Honda loves that and, secondly, it had to be an off-roader which would prepare kids for those mean trail machines that they dream on riding.

Honda makes sure to situate the 2009 CRF100F on that thin line between a competition bike and your normal farm motorcycle in order to stay strong on the market. It manages to do so by establishing a great balance between light handling, plush suspension, a low seat, and an incredible tractable engine.

First Transorientale Race Finishes

The famous and notorious Paris-Dakar is known for its very long and tough rally, with motorcycle riders taking the brunt of its toughness. Gilles Martineau, later assisted by René Metge, planned for two years to produce a real adventure race: a rally from St. Petersburg, Russia to Beijing, China. A race covering 10,000 kilometers in 17 days. Bad roads, deserts, mountains and (...)
