Mavizen TTX02 electric motorcycle tested ahead of TTXGP

The word is out that in 2010 Mavizen could join TTXGP with their TTX02 electric motorcycle unveiled at the SEMA show in Las Vegas and with the bike’s RC8 chassis and approximately 100 hp Agni 95 electric motors, the team should stand a chance against the stiffer and stiffer competition. The 130 mph electric supersport motorcycle’s low speed battery management system was recently tested, so we got our hands on the detailed pictures and video made there. Enjoy!

James ‘Bubba’ Stewart shows off bikes at MTV Cribs

World Supercross Champion James ‘Bubba’ Stewart has recently presented his house and several garages at MTV’s Cribs. Yamaha’s rider may be a lot of time away for the races, but when he’s home, he sure doesn’t lack comfort and bikes to ride. James even has his own track to practice on and a Segway to help him cover the immense yard. Hmm, I wonder what he expects Santa to bring him…

If looks could kill: Nicky Hayden publishes first Ducati GP10 photo!

There’s a reason why manufacturers usually ban all cellphones from their R&D facilities and Ducati may have just learned their lesson after Marlboro Ducati rider Nicky Hayden took an iPhone shot of the 2010 Desmosedici GP10 MotoGP bike when recently visiting the Ducati factory.

Ouch, that surely ruined someone’s day, but not entirely as the photo only reveals larger vents in the side fairing. The change enhances engine cooling and helps Ducati meet MotoGP regulations, which for 2010 say that no more than 6 engines must last all 18 races. That apart, the bike doesn’t look much different from its predecessor, but we still have to wait long for the official unveiling and thank Nicky Hayden for this unexpected preamble.

Rumor: Derbi unveiled their all-new GPR Electric Motorcycle in Barcelona! [w/video]

We usually don’t like rumors, but when we heard that Derbi has most likely built an all electric race version of their GPR 125, we dug more into the subject and came to find that the so-called rumor is actually supported by a video posted on Youtube by Sevcon, a UK based manufacturer of electrical equipment. According to the source of the video, this is Derbi’s all-new electric bike which uses a controller supplied by Sevcon.

Seen in the mysterious video is the full bike called the Derbi GPR EV being unveiled and tested at Parc Motor De Castelloli in Barcelona, Spain. To us, this looks like the latest open class TTXGP competitor, but there’s no official word about it yet, so we’re only left with seeing the bike in action until new information. The video is attached after the break.

Officially official: 2010 Aprilia MXV 4.5 Dakar bike

The 2010 edition of the world’s toughest rally, Dakar, will see Team Giofil’s riders – Paolo Ceci, Gerard Farres, Francisco Lopez and Alex Zanotti – competing on the barely revealed Aprilia MXV 450 Africa.

This is the latest version of the bike that brought the team the last two consecutive Rally of the Pharoahs wins (in 2008 and 2009) and third place overall in 2009.

Although based on the standard MXV 4.5 model, the four competition bikes that Aprilia will supply Team Giofil with are all powered by a seriously modified engine and strengthened chassis, the bodywork and navigation equipment being actually the least stressful part when preparing any bike for 16 days of hell on earth.

Teams will be setting off on January 1 and surrender weapons on January 17, 2010.

Yamaha Christmas card with Rossi, Spies and Stewart

2. Yamaha Christmas card with Rossi, Spies and Stewart

Yamaha North America is wishing you Happy Holidays by using the Rossi-Spies-Stewart trio in a Christmas card that is both rewarding (for fans) and funny (just look at them).

Personally, I have the impression that one of the Yamaha stars will suddenly jump on a snowmobile or anything similar and tear the roof of that cabin apart, but they all look pretty happy in the short time away from races, especially Valentino Rossi, who is holding his “Phillip Island kitten”.

Don Quixote Reloaded with Red Bull

As far as we’re aware, motorcyclists don’t waist their time fighting windmills, so these pictures are just part of a funny way to promote the Red Bull Don Quixote 2 enduro race for couples in Spain. The original idea is quite funny, especially because of the fact that the brave knights look so unenthusiastic about their 1hp. We have also attached the trailer after the jump.

Zero Motorcycles enters 2010 TTXGP Electric Motorcycle Championships

Zero Motorcycles has announced their entry into the 2010 TTXGP series, which turns them into competitors for Team Agni and CRP Racing. The company’s race bike will be built around a Mavizen TTX02 chassis, the same as on KTM’s RC8 superbike, while the battery packs and electric motors will be those of the Zero’s Z-Force.

Sounds like the competition is getting stiffer and stiffer in the TTXGP’s electric motorcycle racing series, eGrandPrix and we can’t wait for next year’s May, when the first race is scheduled at Infineon in California.

Press release is attached after the jump.
