On April 23, the City Council voted unanimously to define the start and finish of the rally after hearing from Charlie St. Clair, the executive director of the Laconia Motorcycle Week Association, that in 2008, June 1 falls on a Sunday, which means that the first weekend of the month does not constitute a full June weekend and due to a calendar irregularity, Bike Week 2008 would not end on Father’s Day as has been customary. The sound of motorcycle engines revving up on Sunday was just as inspirational as any four-part harmony selection, according to members of Hope Community Church. Their annual Biker Sunday drew hundreds of motorcycles and people to the church grounds as members attempted to demonstrate that God’s love is open to everyone. A biker is not a biker without the leather: leather jacket, leather vest, leather chaps, leather boots, leather belt. Studded, fringed, pinned, plain and covered in patches. Nearly 20,000 people could attend an inaugural motorcycle rally in Hutchinson this July to experience a weekend of Kansas culture, events and unique entertainment. A trio of local motorbike enthusiasts is bringing the Crossroads of America Bike ’07 Rally to the Salt City July 13 through 15 at the Kansas State Fairgrounds. Houma, LA. — A weekend motorcycle rally exceeded expectations by drawing as many as 2,500 motorcycle enthusiasts from around the country to Houma to ride, fraternize and enjoy the local flavor. Based on preliminary estimates by the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center, the rally injected a half-million dollars in retail sales alone to the area. Civic Center Director David Ohlmeyer said that while on-site food sales were disappointing, thousands of dollars were spent in local restaurants. (...)
