Ferrari’s Felipe Massa took the pole position at Istanbul Park as he did last year when he obtained his first win. Massa overtook Lewis Hamilton with just 0.044 s. The two drivers were followed by their team mates as follows: Kimi Raikkonen on the 3rd position and Fernando Alonso on the 4th.

In the McLaren team things are looking good due to the problems between Alonso and Hamilton after the Hungarian Grand Prix.Hamilton set the third-fastest time of the day while his team mate Fernando Alonso placed 6th with 1m 28.947s.. The two McLaren drivers had the same problems with their monoposts, a small gearbox oil leak which cause the clutch to slip.
