Audi continued its impressive series of victories in the Le Mans 24 Hour race in extremely difficult conditions. Frank Biela (Germany), Emanuele Pirro (Italy) and Marco Werner (Germany) repeated their success from last year thus giving Audi their seventh victory in the French endurance classic. 7th victory for Audi at the 24 Hours of Le Mans(2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007).
Due to the strong rainfall that flooded the circuit in the last hour of the race, the Race Directors, led by Daniel Poissenot, decided to neutralize the race and deployed the safety cars for 50 minutes. It was a decision that didn’t affect the outcome of the race. The first priority of all teams was to finish the race safely.

The accident made the safety car enter and stop the race.
At 16:32 the two safety cars have entered the course again after a major accident involving one of the Audis. Mike Rockenfeller has lost control of the No.3 Audi R10 TDi in Tertre Rouge and impacted the Armco barrier with the rear of the car. You can see in this video the Porsche 936 on the Mulsanne straightaway reaching almost 400 km/h(or almost 250mph).
Mulsanne is the famous straightaway on the Circuit de la Sarthe that is used in the sports car endurance race 24 Hours of Le Mans. Originally a 5km straight, it was reduced into 3 sections with two chicanes to reduce the dangerous 250mph speeds for the 1990 endurance race.
This is Porsche 936, a racing car introduced in 1976 by Porsche to race in Le Mans.From 1976 to 1981, the factory entered Porsche 936 won the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times with Jacky Ickx (’76, ’77, ’81), and came second twice (’78 and ’80).
