Since NASCAR soon will implement a four-car-per-team cap, Hendrick will let Kyle Busch leave to pursue other options.

"It became obvious during the Charlotte race weekend that a fresh start would be good for both of us," Hendrick said of Busch, a young and talented but generally unpopular driver. "He has several good opportunities, so he’ll go for them. As we worked on an extension of his contract and other teams started talking to him, it became clear some other people wanted him. There was an unbelievable amount of interest when he started testing the waters. It wasn’t an easy decision, but it was best for all of us. We’re still committed to helping him and the Kellogg’s team do well and contend for the championship this year."

"A huge factor in this decision was my relationship with Rick," Junior said. "This is more than professional; it’s also personal. He’s always been genuinely concerned with my best interests through the years, when I’ve gone to him with issues. He cares about all his people, and I wanted to be around somebody like that.

"I took this as seriously as anything I’ve ever done, and I’m comfortable with it, happy and excited with it. It feels like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. There’s a lot of relief and excitement in me right now, but we still have a lot of work to do, a lot of meshing of things to get ready for next year."
