Juan Pablo Montoya won the Nascar race at Sonoma in his Toyota/Save Mart 350 demonstrating that it doesn’t matter in which championship you race, as long as you have the racing passion in your blood. Many people doubted that Montoya could overtake the big boys from Nascar championship, but the Colombian did it, and he did it well.
Montoya had a superb race: starting in 32nd place after a bad qualifying session,he made his way easily into first places. With 30 laps to go Montoya was the third, but he overtook Jamie McMurray and Kevin Harvick who were in the first two places.
With this victory Juan Pablo Montoya becomes the third foreign-born driver to win a Nascar race.Mario Andretti was the first, and before Montoya was the Canadian Earl Ross.He also becomes the third driver to earn victories in F1, NASCAR and Indy cars, next Mario Andretti and Dan Gurney.
Montoya’s victory is a big success for Nascar’s diversity effort."I think this victory is really good for all of NASCAR and its diversity plan," Montoya said.
