This weekend will be a hot one for the current leader of the DTM championship, Mattias Ekström (Audi A4 DTM). Ekström will try to defend his lead in front of the the Mercedes drivers such as Bernd Schneider and Bruno Spengler. The DTM travels now at Nürburgring where Mercedes has an advantage in front of Audi.
Bruno Spengler, the Mercedes-Benz driver hopes that he will repeat this weekend his 2006 victory on the German race track. Spengler and his team mate Bernd Schneider hope that this weekend they will get closer to the championship leaders Mattias Ekström (38 points) and Zandvoort winner Martin Tomczyk (30). Spengler has currently 26 points and his team mate 25.5 .
The current leader, Ekström said that the race from Nürburgring will be a very important one, since he is far from having secured the title, and he is determined to fight with Tomczyk and Spengler for keeping the lead in the championship. In the declarations war Spengler added that he will give his best at Nürburgring and increase in this way his chances for becoming the 2007 DTM champion.
