Following an incident-free start with the five MC12s occupying places in the top ten, Massimiliano Busnelli had an unfortunate clash with a GT3, ran off the track and damaged his car. The winner of the sixth round of the Porsche Carrera Cup on the Circuit Park Zandvoort (Netherlands) was only decided in a dramatic final lap. Sitting in third position, Chris Mamerow (Germany) passed first his compatriot René Rast and then promptly took Uwe Alzen by surprise, who had been leading, with a short interruption, since the second lap. The two Swedish rounds of the FIA World Touring Car Championship witnessed an amazing debut for the groundbreaking new TDI-engined SEAT León WTCC. After Jordi Gené ran as high as 2nd in Race 1, Yvan Muller scored the new car’s first WTCC points by finishing in 6th place. After some exciting duels between Alexandre Prémat and Martin Tomczyk, Tomczyk find a way to overtake the 25 year old driver with just a few yards before crossing the finish line and won his first DTM race of the season.Due to its success of today, Martin Tomczyk is now the main rival in the battle for the tittle, with a difference of 8 points between him and the leader, Mattias Ekström. Two new-comers banished the old-hands to the lower ranks on the grid in qualifying for the sixth round of the Carrera Cup Deutschland. Olivier Pla from France secured pole position on the 4.3 kilometre track in the Circuit Park Zandvoort (NL). Taking up Sunday’s 19-lap race alongside Pla is Germany’s René Rast. Timo Scheider got his first pole position in the DTM Championship after Audi dominated the qualifying session at Zandvoort.He obtained the result when there were only 10 remaining from the session.Audi obtained again the top five positions in on the grid for the second race running. The third qualifying session, held this morning, finalised the starting grid for the 24 Hours of Spa. The race will get underway tomorrow at 16.00. Richard Westbrook returns to Zandvoort (Netherlands) with good memories. Volkswagen of America, Inc. scored the top spots in the High Performance Showroom Stock division at the 85th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) on Saturday, July 21, 2007.
