Martin Tomczyk increased his chances to win the 2007 DTM title after he won the European Grand Prix, this weekend at Nurburgring. The Audi driver finished the race with an advantage of over 6 seconds in front the Mercedes driver Bruno Spengler, who got only the second place.
The 3rd place was occupied by another Audi driver, the German Mattias Ekstrom. Ekstrom overtook Timo Scheider who placed on the 4th position. Behind them were three Mercedes-Benz cars driven by Jamie Green, Paul Di Resta and Bernd Schneider.
Tom Kristensen overtook another Audi driver, Alexandre Premat, and finished on the 8th place. The ex F1 champion, Mika Hakkinen closed the top ten with a difference of almost 37 seconds between him and the leader Martin Tomczyk.
With 20 points still at stake, Bern Schneider still has theoretical chances to win this DTM season but this we shall see in the next two Grands Prix.The 9th and penultimate DTM round of the year will take place at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on September 23rd.
