Kirby Garlitos

Kirby’s fascination with cars began when he first laid eyes on his first Micro Machine. At that time, he thought they were the coolest toys in the world, narrowly edging out those Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures. Over time, his love for cars evolved to Matchbox cars and Burago models, then finally, it all became a reality when he bought his first ride — a 1998 Honda City — back in 2002.

His tastes and preferences on cars has changed over time, but his passion remains (as does his love for TMNT). Writing about his passions for Top Speed has been the closest thing to a dream job this side of being a Ferrari test driver.

The 2015 Ford Focus Sedan looks different, doesn’t it? That’s because Ford really went into detail on giving the sedan a refreshed look, at least much more than what you would expect when the word "refresh" is thrown around. But that’s been a Blue Oval strategy for the past few years and with that increased emphasis on keeping the car looking as fresh as possible should translate into renewed interest from the market.

In a lot of ways, the 2015 Focus Sedan is the latest example of that because the car is essentially the same save for the new face and a few interior updates. It’s hard to go against this strategy because Ford has been doing it in some capacity in the past few years and there have been occassions when other brands have adopted the same mindset.

But the real question is whether all these changes are enough to compel a new wave of buyers to be interested in the Focus Sedan, especially when you consider that it’s got some notable rivals in the form of the Honda Civic and the Toyota Corolla .

Ford’s banking on it and to its credit, it’s putting a lot of chips on the table to do it.

Retaining most of its features from the 2014 model, the 2015 Sorento makes its way to dealerships with just a few subtle upgrades to make it a more appealing option for customers looking to buy a midsize SUV . The interior and the engine optios of the Sorento received their upgrades last year, so there’s really no need to ask for a complete refresh again. But there are some changes to the 2015, enough at least to make it distinguishable from its predecessor, and more importantly, make it more attractive, especially for young buyers. There really are a lot of things to like about the Sorento; it’s got a nice design and it offers copious amounts of power that should make it a contender in its segment.

But the best part about Kia’s midsize SUV is its price. Whereas rival models are close to the $30,000 range for their V-6 trims, while the Sorento’s V-6 starts at just a little over $26,000. That’s value right there.

The new-generation Jeep Cherokee is making its first appearance at the Easter Jeep Safari. For its first taste of the event, the Cherokee is getting upgrades befitting of the company’s off-road reputation.

First of all, we’re already on record as not being big fans of how the new Jeep Cherokee’s looks. Those slit-like headlights look good on a coupe , but not so much on an off-road SUV . But that’s neither here nor there, because all the modifications given to the Cherokee Adventure makes those lights seem like an afterthought.

Boasting of Trailhawk 4x4 capability, the Cherokee Adventure lives up to its name, nicely balancing the tan exterior with plenty of new adventure paraphernalia best suited for the SUV’s purpose. A prototype matte-black Mopar roof basket rides on top, providing space for owners to stow all their gear for all their outdoor adventures.

Speaking of the outdoors, the Cherokee Adventure has also been prepped to tackle even the roughest of terrains. Jeep Performance Parts rock rails have been installed to provide off-road defense. Added protection also comes in the form of a two-piece underbody skid plate, a front suspension skid plate, an oil tank skid plate and a two-piece fuel tank skid plate.

First teased back in January under a sheet of white cloth, Peugeot’s Beijing-bound concept vehicle has finally had the covers pulled off, revealing a dramatically-styled four-door coupe bearing the name "Exalt". So here it is, ladies and gentlemen: the Peugeot Exalt Concept.

Back when it was first teased, Peugeot boldly announced that this concept would serve as a follow up to the incredible Onyx Concept we saw at the 2012 Paris Auto Show . If anything, the Exalt has some pretty enormous shoes to fill, considering how bonkers the Onyx turned out to be with its insane 680-horsepower and 1,061-pound-feet output.

Peugeot is presenting the Exalt Concept with a Hybrid4 powertrain that combines with a gasoline engine and an electric motor, producing a combined output of around 340 horsepower. It’s not on the level of the Onyx, but really, there aren’t a lot of cars out there that are on the level of the Onyx.

There was a time when Jaguar was relegated as an afterthought in the luxury car segment. But things changed when chief designer Ian Callum came on board and his first design for Jaguar was for the XK . Fast-forward a few years later and the XK’s design language has made its way across the Jaguar lineup, marking the return to form of the company.

But for all the contributions the Jaguar XK has made to revitalize the company, sales of the model were undercut from within with the release of the F-Type Roadster . It came to the point where the model’s struggling sales forced the company to announce that it would discontinue the XK by the end of the year.

So you can imagine how the 2014 XK must feel. To be fair, it’s got a lot of traits and characteristics that are worthy appreciating. It’s looks may be getting dated, but it’s still flashy enough to catch peoples’ attention. Power isn’t an issue, either, and the luxury and technological amenities on the interior is top-class all the way.

But with all that comes a dark cloud hanging over the XK’s head and that’s a position it really doesn’t deserve.

Koenigsegg has been churning out episodes of its Inside Koenigsegg web series at around the same pace as the speed of its subject, the One:1 megacar . Now on its third episode, Inside Koenigsegg now takes us on an in-depth look at the One:1 ’s active rear wing.

Christian Von Koenigsegg claims that the One:1’s rear wing is the world’s first top-mounted active rear wing, a distinction the company decided to go with because it creates the kind of downforce that can be of good use to the high-speed stability of the One:1.

Another unique characteristic of this top-mounted active rear wing is its weight. According to Koenigsegg, the whole carbon-fiber component only weighs 10 kg, one-third the weight of similar contraptions from Koenigsegg’s competitors.

That’s pretty impressive, more so knowing how much it helps the supercar achieve its ungodly performance capabilities. It makes us wonder, really, how far more advanced the One:1 really is when you line it up against its rivals.
