Despite being recently facelifted, the first generation of the Tatra Terrno is still sold along side with the new model. While the new versions received a fresher design, the old Terrno continues to look dated and features a pretty spartan cab.

The truck was built for extreme conditions and it features a high ground clearance and heavy duty axles which permits it to tackle the harshest terrains with poise.

At the heart of the Tatra Terrno 1 sits a directly air-cooled Tatra on Airtm engine which offers plenty of power and torque to play with. To suit a wide range of applications, the medium duty Terrno 1 is available in 4x4, 6x4, 6x6 and 8x8 configurations.

Tatra is highly appreciated for its solid and rugged trucks. While there are a lot of fire trucks out there, there aren’t many models that can stack up with confidence against the 815 model build by Tata.

The most important weapon needed in firefighting operations, is without a doubt the water tender truck. The volume of water that can be carried by a fire truck could make the difference between a few pieces of burned wood or a full scale inferno and at this part Tatra’s truck receives high marks being able to transport up to 9000 l of water.

The Tatra T 815 water tender is built by THT, s.r.o. Polička, a leading Central European specialist in firefighting vehicles. Using the newest Tatra chassis, the fire truck it is designed to transport large quantities of extinguishing agents and 1+3 firefighting crew.

In 2009 the old Tatra Terrno 1 benefitted from a small facelift, as it received improved aerodynamics and a host of technical upgrades.

The Terrno 1 features a cab over engine configuration and is offered with a choice of 4x4, 6x4, 6x6 and 8x8 drives. Due to its versatile character, the medium duty truck can be used for various applications on any terrains as its King Frame combined suspension (mechanical leaf or coil springs and high-pressure air bellows) gives it capable off road abilities.

While there are a lot of vehicles that claim to be the best off-roader, there is only one which truly deserves this distinction.

With GVWs (gross vehicle weights) between 7,5 – 14, 1 tonnes, the Mercedes Benz Unimog is the ultimate off roader and was build from the ground up to never back down regardless of the working conditions.

Built on the strong base of the legendary Unimog, the 3000-5000 series are the biggest Unimogs ever built and are offered with a choice of two cab configuration and two Euro 5 engines which develop 177 hp and 218 hp.

The Iveco Daily is one of the most versatile LCVs from the market and besides the typical van and pickup versions, the model is also available in off road guise.

Thanks to its huge ground clearance (30 cm) and the capable 4x4 system, the Iveco Daily was engineered to be able to conquer the most difficult terrains regardless of what weight is carrying at the back.

Thanks to its utilitarian nature, the Iveco Daily 4x4 can be used in construction and infrastructure maintenance work sites or for special missions such as snow ploughs, fire fighting, emergency and civil protection vehicles.

The off road LCV is offered in short wheelbase (3,050 mm) and long wheelbase (3,400 mm) versions, and is also available as a crew cab. There are two gross vehicle weight versions available, namely the 3.5 t with a maximum load of 2,250 kg on the front axle and 2,800 kg on the rear axle; and 5.5 t with a maximum load 2,450 kg on the front axle and 3,700 kg on the rear axle.

The Chinese manufacturers still have to work hard to convince us about the reliability of their products, as until now everyone had doubts about them. Only time would tell, whether Foton is a trusted manufacture or not, but the alliances with Daimler and Cummins are worth to be took into consideration and could represent a strong base for a bright future.

The OLN is the smallest truck in Foton’s lineup and was engineered as a versatile light commercial vehicle destined to deal with urban transportation and heavy traffic. The truck features a pretty spacious interior and is available in two cab versions – single cab and crew cab. Power comes from two 4 cylinder diesel engines which develop 120 hp and 140 hp.

The Hino 300 Series is a light commercial duty with a highly versatile character. The truck is based on the Toyota Dyna and shares many elements with its donor.

When Hino engineered the 300 Series, its main objective was to make it as efficient as possible and thanks to the addition of the a Diesel Particulate Active Reduction System (DPR ) the result is pretty good. Besides its good efficiency, the truck also offers generous payload capacities with GVMR (gross vehicle mass rating) that can go up to 8.5 tones.

The Hino 300 Series is available with both regular and wide cab configurations and is powered by a 4.0 liter diesel engine which develops up to 155 hp.

The Hyundai H100 is also known as the Porter and is around since 1977. The H100 was initially launched on the Asian market and became the segment leader pretty fast. Being designed as a lightweight pickup truck the vehicle is especially appreciated for its reliable and versatile character.

With both single (4,760-4,795 mm length) and double (5,085-5,120 mm length) cab configurations and available in Deck, Tipper and Chassis Cab versions, the Hyundai HD100 is equipped with an 80 hp diesel engine that develops a peak torque of 170 Nm. The vehicle is priced from $22.700 and comes with a standard 5 Year or 150 000 km warranty.

Isuzu ’s F Series is one of the most versatile ranges of trucks available on today’s market. The vehicles have a good reputation regarding their reliability and they also receive good marks when it comes to fuel efficiency.

The F Series shares the same cabin with the stronger FX model, but compared with its bigger brother it has a more serene and subdued character. The Isuzu F Series is available with a choice of four engine outputs ranging from 200 hp to 300 hp and GVM (gross vehicle mass) ratings between 10400 kg - 16.500 kg. Specialist F-Series models include full-time 4 X 4 and 6 X 2 freight carriers, a 6 X 4 refuse compactor and truck tractors.

The Hyundai HD65, 72 and 78 models share the same design and underpinnings and were engineered as light or medium duty commercial vehicles available with various body options. Thanks to its versatility the Hyundai’s HD series can be used for a wide range of commercial applications which demand a tough and flexible vehicle able to get the job done without thinking twice.

The trucks are available with three cab configurations including the Crew, Standard and the Extended version which ads 300mm of extra carrying space being designed especially for long distance operations.

The truck also offers big load carrying abilities with deck lengths between 5.3 and 6.6 meters depending on the model. The HD series vehicle has various GVW (Gross vehicle weight) ratings including 6.5t (HD65), 7.2t (HD72) and 7.8t (HD78) models.
