The Hyundai HD65, 72 and 78 models share the same design and underpinnings and were engineered as light or medium duty commercial vehicles available with various body options. Thanks to its versatility the Hyundai’s HD series can be used for a wide range of commercial applications which demand a tough and flexible vehicle able to get the job done without thinking twice.

The trucks are available with three cab configurations including the Crew, Standard and the Extended version which ads 300mm of extra carrying space being designed especially for long distance operations.

The truck also offers big load carrying abilities with deck lengths between 5.3 and 6.6 meters depending on the model. The HD series vehicle has various GVW (Gross vehicle weight) ratings including 6.5t (HD65), 7.2t (HD72) and 7.8t (HD78) models.

Competing against rivals like the Mercedes Benz Sprinter or Ford Transit has never been easy for Toyota Hiace, and its sales charts never went on fire.

But where it may lack in style or technology, the Hiace compensates with a pretty affordable price being a cheaper alternative to its more upscale rivals.

The Hiace is also pretty versatile too, and is available with various wheelbases, engines and body styles. The vehicle is priced at $15.000 and has received its last major revisions in 2007 when Toyota made some upgrades to the engines and the exterior design.

Ford’s response to Volkswagen Transporter and Renault Traffic is ready to take center stage at the upcoming 2012 Commercial Vehicle Show, as the company has officially announced the debut of its new LCV prior to sales launch later in 2012 in Europe.

The new Ford Transit Custom is based on the Ford Tourneo Custom Concept and except for some minor exterior modifications it bares the same look as its donor.

The company declared that the Ford Transit Custom will be available with a full range of van, combi, and double-cab-in-van models and won’t be sold in North America.

Jesus Alonso, director CV Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford of Europe said, “The launch of this new range marks the start of a far-reaching transformation of Ford’s global commercial vehicle range. With more new models set to be revealed in the coming months, 2012 is destined to be a very exciting year for our commercial vehicle business.”

Except for a few minor modifications, the Citroen Relay shares the same design and technology with the Peugeot Boxer and Fiat Ducato . The vehicle is available with a wide range of options and was designed as an efficient and light commercial vehicle. There Citroen Relay is available as a dropside, panel van, box van, crew cab, tipper and freezer, and comes with both leaf and air suspension configurations. The Citroen Relay is priced from $ 18.800 and has a generous payload capacity that can go up to 4 tones.

The Renault Mascott was introduced in 1999 and it was discontinued in 2010, when it was replaced by the third generation Master. The Mascott was available in many body configurations including vans and chassis cab models. Thanks to its versatility and a relatively low acquisition price, the vehicle received a good response from the market.

The Mascot was equipped with a Euro 4 engine and featured a pretty spacious cab with a good overall ergonomy. The Mascott offered a wide range of versions from 3.5 t to 6.5 t, with single or dual rear wheels. The vehicle was also available with a choice of body lengths ranging from 2,575 mm to 6,460 mm.

Citroen has announced that at the upcoming Commercial Vehicle Show (April 24 -26) will present the facelifted versions of its Dispatch and Berlingo LCVs. The new models received both style and technical modifications and also a few interior upgrades.

Together with the new models the company will also showcase the latest Euro 5 Nemo, Berlingo XTR+, two Relay Enterprise panel vans and a Relay Specialist tipper.

Scott Michael, Citroën’s Commercial Vehicle Operations Manager, said: “The 2012 Berlingo and Dispatch ranges offer further fuel economy gains and emissions reduction benefits. These improvements will put the Berlingo and Dispatch models even further ahead of their competitors.” The 2012 Citroen Dispatch is available in standard and Enterprise trim levels with a choice of 1,000 or 1,200kg payloads.

The Renault Trafic is one of the best looking commercial vehicles available on today’s market. The Trafic is not only good looking, but has also a very flexible nature being able to deal with a wide range of commercial applications.

The Trafic occupies the gap between the smaller Kangoo and the bigger Master, and shares the same design and underpinnings with the Opel Vivaro and Nissan Primastar.

With a starting price of $20230 (excluding taxes) and a maximum payload capacity of up to 1.2 tonnes the Renault Traffic can be considered a pretty affordable vehicle that comes with a wide choice of body shapes and is pretty cheap to maintain. There are also two wheelbase options (3098mm and 3498mm) and two roof heights available.

The Hyundai HD Series are the lightest trucks built by the company and are available with tree gross vehicle ratings, 4.5, 6.5 and 7.5 tonne. The vehicle is also available with two cab choices and long or short wheelbases.

The Hyundai HD45 is the smallest model in the HD range and is equipped a CRDi diesel engine that develops 80 hp with 167 Nm of torque.

Compared to other trucks in its class the Hyundai HD45 is starting to show its age and the build quality and the fit and finish are also behind other similarly spec’d trucks. On the other hand, the Hyundai HD45 was always appreciated for its cheap maintenance costs and a relatively affordable acquisition price.

The new Fiat Ducato shares the same design with Peugeot Boxer and Citroen Relay. Between the three models however, there are a few minor differences when it comes to specifications and price.

Since its first introduction the Ducato has prove to be a surprisingly success for Fiat and it was sold in nice numbers. The current market response isn’t bad either, as the vehicle is very practical and has a versatile nature being available in van and chassis cab versions with both single and double cab configurations. With a starting price of $22.000 the Fiat Ducato is also among the cheapest options available in its segment and offers a good value for money.

Fiat says that its latest generation Doblo Cargo is 90 percent new over the older version. Designed for light commercial applications the Doblo Cargo comes in a wide range of models, has a spacious interior and is available with a bunch of capable Multijet engines.

The main competitors of the Doblo Cargo are models like the Volkswagen Caddy, Citroen Berlingo or Ford Transit. However, despite the fact the all three models share the same segment, the Doblo Cargo offers a bigger load capacity which gives it a major advantage over its rivals.

The Fiat Doblo Cargo has a starting price of $23.200 and is available with different body styles including short or long wheelbases, a combi and even a chassis cab model.
