Up until recently UD was a bit behind its rivals as its trucks had dated cabins with poor ergonomy and the engines and transmissions were part of the old generation.

In 2011 however, the Volvo owned company decided that it’s time for a major upgrade in its lineup of medium duty trucks. As a result, it came up with a totally redesigned cab, upgraded engines and even Allison automatic transmissions.

The trucks kept their work horse character and come with GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) ratings between 15.000 kg- 32.000 kg.

Mitsubishi’s medium duty truck was built with versatility in mind and is available in a wide range of version with GVMs (Gross Vehicle Masses) ranging from 10400 kg-24000 kg.

The Mitsubishi Fuso fighter has undergone a full model change in 2009 when it received a more comfortable cabin and a host of technical upgrades to make it able to compete with success against its rivals.

The truck is offered with a choice of two engines which develop 177 or 199 hp with maximum torques of 686 Nm and 785 Nm respectively. The interesting part is that recently the Fuso Fighter’s transmission lineup was completed with an Allison automatic unit which is now offered together with the manual gearboxes.

The ACCO is a medium duty truck build by Iveco . The vehicle was designed for the Australian market and is available in a wide range of versions with 4x2, 6x4 and 8x4 axle configurations. Thanks to its versatile character, the truck can be used for waste, distribution and construction applications.

The Iveco ACCO has a long history behind and was launched for first time in 1972. Since then, the truck was continuously improved and the latest major upgrade was made in 2007 when the truck received a new exterior design together with improved comfort and efficiency.

The Iveco Acco is powered by a 2010 Cummins ISL-E5 engine which is available with three power ratings, ranging from 260 hp to 315 hp.

The Hyundai HD 120 is a lightweight commercial vehicle with a cab over engine configuration designed for medium duty activities. The truck features a standard full floating cab suspension for a more comfortable ride and has a roomy and spacious cabin designed with practicality in mind.

To be able to cope with a wide range of applications, the truck is offered with a choice of numerous wheelbase dimensions and different GVW (gross vehicle weights) ratings which range between 12,520 – 21320 kg. The Hyundai HD 120 truck is available with two engine options which develop 196 hp or 225 hp.

Isuzu ’s F Series is one of the most versatile ranges of trucks available on today’s market. The vehicles have a good reputation regarding their reliability and they also receive good marks when it comes to fuel efficiency.

The F Series shares the same cabin with the stronger FX model, but compared with its bigger brother it has a more serene and subdued character. The Isuzu F Series is available with a choice of four engine outputs ranging from 200 hp to 300 hp and GVM (gross vehicle mass) ratings between 10400 kg - 16.500 kg. Specialist F-Series models include full-time 4 X 4 and 6 X 2 freight carriers, a 6 X 4 refuse compactor and truck tractors.

The Isuzu F Series lineup consists of more than 18 models with GVM (gross vehicle masses) ranging from 3559 kg to 24000 kg and GCM (gross combination masses) from 3550 kg to 42500 kg. The Isuzu FX Series is the biggest model in the F Series Range and occupies the gap between the F Series and Gigamax models, being available with GVMs ratings between 16500 kg-24.000 kg. The Isuzu FX series is equipped with a common rail diesel engine with a maximum output of 360 hp and 1442 Nm of torque.

The Hyundai HD65, 72 and 78 models share the same design and underpinnings and were engineered as light or medium duty commercial vehicles available with various body options. Thanks to its versatility the Hyundai’s HD series can be used for a wide range of commercial applications which demand a tough and flexible vehicle able to get the job done without thinking twice.

The trucks are available with three cab configurations including the Crew, Standard and the Extended version which ads 300mm of extra carrying space being designed especially for long distance operations.

The truck also offers big load carrying abilities with deck lengths between 5.3 and 6.6 meters depending on the model. The HD series vehicle has various GVW (Gross vehicle weight) ratings including 6.5t (HD65), 7.2t (HD72) and 7.8t (HD78) models.

The Mercedes Benz Econic was designed as a versatile vocational truck which can serve to a very wide range of applications including refuse, fire and emergency airport services, delivery etc.

TheMercedes Benz Econic received its latest upgrades in 2010 when it was equipped with a more efficient Euro 4 engine with Blue technology and a new folding door with a wider opening.

The Econic is available with high-roof cab (1935 mm height, 2280 mm width and 2000 mm length) and low-roof cab (1485 mm height, 2280 mm width and 2000 mm length).

The International City Star was introduced in 2004 and is available in two versions namely the CF500 and CF600. The truck features a cab over engine configuration and was designed as a class 4 medium duty vehicle with a GVW (gross vehicle weight) rating of up to 19.500 lbs.

The International CityStar can be used for a wide range of medium duty applications and its relatively compact dimensions give it a high maneuverability around the narrow city streets.

Under the cab, the truck is equipped with International’s VT 275 4.5-liter V6 diesel engine which offers a maximum output of 200 hp and is mated on a five speed automatic transmission.

Freightliner has made available the Eaton UltraShift PLUS Vocational series automated transmission for the 114SD and Coronado SD models. The UltraShift PLUS transmission was designed especially for vocational applications and features extended low and reverse gear rations which make it perfect even for the most demanding work situations.

For maximum performances, the transmission features smooth and fast gear changes and is combined with the company’s shift logic which constantly adapts the gear changes according to the payload, grade and power to offer maximum performances with low fuel consumption. The UltraShift PLUS Vocational transmission also comes with a series of useful features which include hill start aid, auto neutral and automatic, manual and low modes.
