Tired of your old Kenworth truck? No reason to worry, as Kenworth has made available a series of glider kits for the T660, T800 and W900L models. The glider kits can be mated to customer-supplied EPA 2004 engines and matching transmissions.
Alan Fennimore, vocational marketing manager declared, “We’re offering the gliders as both rolling and non-rolling models (customer supplies driveline, axles, suspensions, wheels, tires and other ‘rolling’ equipment) and no FET tax is included from Kenworth. Depending upon the project’s final cost, and if the host parts came from a useable truck, the 12% Federal Excise Tax (FET) on new trucks may not be applicable, which can be a real money saver for customers.”
FET will apply when a glider kit is used to repair a wrecked truck vehicle, or change its intended service or where the restoration cost exceeds 75% of the value.
Mr. Fennimore added: “There are several other engine-related components – such as electrical harnesses, power steering pumps, batteries and air cleaners – that customers need to supply themselves, or purchase from Paccar Parts through their local Kenworth dealerships, but for the truck itself, it’s a very complete package.”
Concluding the report, Fennimore said that the interest for gliders has started to grow in the latest years, hence their decision, “Gliders are a great alternative for fleets and owner operators with the tools and service technicians to bring a solid and existing powertrain back to life in a ‘brand new truck’. We’ve talked with several fleets that plan to purchase gliders and have their service technicians work on the conversions during slow or off periods. It can be an effective use of shop hours.”
Kenworth has a history of over 40 years on the Australian market and one of its best sold models was the K100. Over the years, the truck received continuous upgrades and the K100 evolved in the K200 model which is currently the only cab-over heavy duty model in Kenworth ’s lineup.
The truck is offered with a choice of three cab versions and is powered by a Cummins ISC engine which develops between 485hp – 600 hp. For maximum flexibility, there are also available three axle configurations including 6x4, 8x4 and 10x6 models. Kenworth’s K200 truck can be built to a variety of wheelbases with components mounted on the frame to suit different needs.
The Kenworth T700 is basically an improved version of the old T2000 model. The truck features a conventional cab configuration with an aerodynamic design and was engineered to offer maximum performances for long haul and regional operations.
TheKenworth T700 is available with both Day and Sleeper cabs and offers acres of space inside and a good ergonomy. The overall build quality is also good and the truck is among the most reliable units in its segment. The power comes from a Paccar MX engine which develops up to 485 hp and up to 1,750 lb-ft of torque.
The Kenworth C500 is the biggest and the strongest truck build by Kenworth. The truck was designed as a heavy duty vehicle for severe duty activities and features a bullet proof build quality and the character of a true tank on wheels.
The Kenworth C500 has a GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) of up to 150,000 lbs. and is available with heavy duty axles and suspensions which can deal with massive payloads without breaking a sweat. The Kenworth C500 can be equipped with strong engines which develop up to 600 hp and features manual or automatic transmissions, with either front or rear PTOs (power take-off).

One of the most aerodynamic trucks from the road is the Kenworth T660 which was designed with a slippery shape that defies the air and offers a better fuel economy.
The Kenworth T660 is available with both single and sleeper cabs and is equipped with a range of capable MX engines which develop between 380 – 485 hp.
The Kenworth T800 is among the toughest trucks built by the company. The T800 has a highly versatile character and is comes in both Day and Sleeper cabs. To be able to deal with its heavy duty missions the truck is equipped with a bunch of strong Paccar engines and features a generous radiator sized from 1,440-1780 square inches. The engines can be mated on automated transmissions which are combined with either rear or front engine PTOs.
Thanks to a solid construction, the front axles can take up to 22,000 pounds, while the twin steer front axles can deal with up to 37,500 pounds. For an enhanced versatility the Kenworth T800 is also available with front drive axles, pusher axles and tags, single, tandem and tridem drives.
Kenworth expanded its product line by launching the T470 model back in 2009. The new medium duty truck was designed with a highly versatile character in order to be easy converted for different vocational and municipal applications.
Available in GVW (gross vehicle weight) ratings from 33,000 lbs to 68,000 lbs, the T470 has a typical Kenworth design and is powered by a 9-liter Cummins ISL engine with a maximum output of 345 hp and 1,150 lb-ft of torque. The truck’s front axles are rated between 12,000 - 22,000 lb. while the rear axles come in both single and tandem configurations with a capacity of 21,000 to 46,000-lb.
Designed for medium-duty activities, the KenworthT370 is available in a wide range of models and its tough chassis is capable of tackling even the toughest jobs.
The Kenworth T370 is a Class 7 vehicle, rated at 33,000 lbs GVW. Available as a straight truck or tractor, it can be configured from the ground up for specific applications and has a starting price of $150.000.
The Kenworth T370 is equipped with the reliable Paccar engines that can be mated on either manual or automatic transmissions which are also available with PTO systems.
At the 2012 Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Kenworth presented the new T680 highway truck which is the most aerodynamic vehicle built by the company. The new Kenworth T680 puts accent on efficiency, performance and comfort and is fitted with a bunch of innovative features.
The 2.1 meters T680 Cab was designed to fills the blank between the 1.9-meter T660 cab and the 2.3 T700 cab models. The truck is being aimed at linehaul, pickup and delivery, and regional freight operators and is available with either single- or sleeper-cab configuration. At the heart of the truck sits the 12.9L Paccar MX engine, while the Cummins ISX15 engine is also available as an option. The new Kenworth T-680, will go into production on May 21.
