The official debut of the new 2020 Chevy Silverado HD is expected in February 2019 - probably at the Chicago Auto Show. Chevy, however, grew some balls and actually revealed first photos of the 2020 Silverado HD. Bask in the greatness of the new 2020 Silverado HD. Or don't! The design turned out to be one of the most astoundingly courageous styling experiments in the industry. The front end looks so much “out there” that, from the looks of things, it seems that Chevy has done too much. GM designers are probably reliving the nightmare that they had with the introduction of the latest Camaro. Remember, that one received an “overnight” update after some massive hate from the whole freaking world.

The new Silverado HD, however, had to be as mad as it is.

"We set out to make a statement with the 2020 Silverado HD and wanted to visually capture the power and capability of the truck," Brian Izard, the pickup's lead exterior designer, said. "The result is a truck that looks like a piece of heavy machinery with modern, chiseled finishes and customer-focused details."

Well, it certainly looks like a piece of machinery, but that is only one of its traits (to some alluring, to many incomprehensive). While information on the new 2020 Chevrolet Silverado is still largely hidden, I managed to find some cool facts that will make the new 2020 Silverado HD closer to you.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD Goes On Sale In The Middle Of The Next Year

We saw it a few months ago in the form of pre-production prototypes. We can see it now online, and we will get to know it better in January 2019. However, the first production units to roll out of Chevy's Michigan plant are bound for the middle of 2019 when you will be able to buy it in one of its many guises. As GM Authority noted earlier this year, expect the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD to be offered in the following configurations:

-* Long Box Regular Cab

-* Long Box Double Cab

-* Long Box Crew Cab

-* Standard Box Double Cab

-* Standard Box Crew Cab

-* Regular Chassis Cab (CC) Dual Rear Wheel

-* Crew Chassis Cab (CC) Dual Rear Wheel

Everything Is All New Except For The Roof (Its shared with the lesser Silverado 1500)

Except for the roof. That is the only piece that remained the same. And I believe that one can definitely feel the difference. Not only in regard to that incredible front end, but the truck feels fresh and more modern as a whole. And massive. It is definitely bigger than before. Unfortunately, it had to grow to remain one of the best sellers in the country.

New Gasoline Engine With Direct Injection

According to some reports, the new engine, that Chevrolet mentioned in its press release for the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD, will actually be a new 6.6-liter, V-8. It will replace the 6.0-liter, V-8 with 360 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. Preliminary information about the novel V-8 engine shows that it will give out more power and more torque with better fuel efficiency.

The added power benefit is only a part of the novelties that await us. If I was asked, I’d say that the new 6.6-liter, V-8 should include a cylinder deactivation system, direct injection, and it should complement the latest fuel-saving technologies. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if it came with some kind of a mild-hybrid setup. RAM's eTorque broke ground for this kind of tech in the segment. Chevy, with its all-new V-8, may follow.

910 Pound-feet Of Torque Diesel In The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD

If you aren’t into gasoline for Heavy Duty tasks, Chevrolet prepared the usual diesel torque-king for the 2020 Silverado HD. While Chevy only revealed the available torque of the diesel engine - at 910 pound-feet - that will become a staple for the Silverado HD, and I can infer that the diesel offering will be much the same as for the current generation. Definitely impressive enough. The RAM HD trucks get a diesel with 20 pound-feet of torque more. The Ford Super Duty diesel is even more powerful - at 935 pound-feet of torque.

Despite the power output, the 2020 Silverado HD diesel will have a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Intimidating Front End

This is the most controversial piece of the new 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD. Not only will the new truck look completely different compared to other smaller Silverado vehicles, but it also gained a front end that can only be considered as intimidating. In my research, I found out that not many potential buyers are actually into the thing. In fact, many are disappointed by the front end and find it simply too extreme. Especially the grille. It is the biggest grille I’ve seen on a truck. Only interrupted with a large metal-looking rail that links the headlights in some strange fashion and carries the “Chevrolet” lettering. There’s no sign of a bowtie there which leads me to my next entry on this list.

No Bowtie Emblem

This is strange. Ever since the first Chevrolet trucks, they’ve all had a bowtie emblem embellishing the front end. I don’t claim I know everything, so I am probably mistaken about that (if so, please correct me in the comment section), but the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD is the first Chevy truck I can think of without the bowtie. Maybe some pre-war trucks did not have it (FYI I am thinking WW2). Nevertheless, as we are definitely looking at the high-end version on these photos, with a Z71 package that elevates its off-road credentials, it may be that the bowtie will land on the “down to earth” models. Heck, with that said, I am thinking that even the front grille may be softened out for lower-end 2020 Silverado HD models.

The Lineup Will Also Include Two-door Models And Six-wheeled Dually Versions At The Very Least

As I was just trying to mentally list all design differences between the model presented here and other possible iterations of the new Silverado HD, it hit me - the truck will be available as a two-door model, a six-wheeled dually, and in iterations from the entry “Work Truck” to the “High Country”. Some of them are bound to have different designs of the grille, bumpers, and so on. I am quite sure that after that massive international hate for the front end, the new 2020 Silverado HD will get something for every taste. Read - Chevy designers are hard at work trying to save what can be saved. They are working overtime ever since the first 2020 Silverado HD broke cover. I am sure of it

February 2019 Debut

We will know a whole lot more about the new Silverado HD after its debut in early 2019. While we do know that the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD will actually come under the spotlights in February, I would not be surprised if we see it in some form at the Detroit Auto Show.

Significant Increases In Towing And Payload Capabilities

While the official values for towing and payload are still unavailable, Chevy's official press release did note that the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD will come with significant increases in towing and payload capabilities. After all, Chevy officials inferred that the truck will be a leader in the segment in terms of towing and payload capacities. It is set to be the most capable and best performing Silverado HD ever.

Four Steps To Access The Bed

One of the most obvious novelties is the four-step access to the bed. No, Chevy did not disclose any info or any pics for that matter about the bed, but steps positioned just before the rear wheel and those at the edges of the bumpers reveal that Chevy imagined the bed to be quite deep and substantial. Side steps will ease access to the far end of the bed while the Silverado HD teems with even more heavy duty gear. New towing mirrors might not be to everyone's liking, but they will get the job done. The same story is with the roof mounted LEDs with heavy-duty marker lights. Although revealed in off-road ready Z1L guise, the 2020 Silverado HD is first and foremost a working truck with talents above anything currently on the market.

Completing The Lineup

The 2020 Silverado HD will complete the Chevrolet truck lineup. If you remember, the 2019 Silverado 1500 appeared in January, with the 2019 Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, and the 6500HD revealed in March. The third iteration, and most striking at that, will come in February 2019. This basically closed up the Silverado lineup in the States.

Trucks.com had early access to 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD

Some time ago, Truck.com journalists had a chance to get the know the 2020 Silverado HD intimately. Well, not totally, but they were closer to the thing than anyone else.

This is what they had to say about it then:

“In person, the truck is extremely large, with a domineering front fascia and tall cabin. It features an extra three inches of rear legroom compared with the current Silverado HD.”

So yes, you will be more than satisfied with the interior room.

New Trailering Technology

With the added towing and hauling capabilities, the New 2020 Silverado HD will get accompanying trailering technology. I can only imagine that the “trailering technology package” will be even more comprehensive than on the 2019 Silverado 1500.

Then we were acquainted with stuff such as the trailer-theft alert, a backup hitch camera, and remote brake light. Can't wait to see what else GM’s concocted for the 2020 Silverado HD.

Everyone Thinks This Thing Is Ugly. Let Me Tell You Why I Think It's Actually Cool

Researching about the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD, I found a disturbing amount of hate comments that really show one thing - people do not like the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD. At all. Someone called it the “The Pontiac Aztek of the HD truck class.” People are that much disgusted by it.

“GM is laying off 14K employees. They need to add the guys that designed that front end to the others,” another guy commented somewhere in the Internet vastness.

This soon became a pattern as people had been largely disappointed by it. But let me get one thing straight. The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD will get the job done and look badass in the process. Just like, say Danny Trejo. That guy isn’t beautiful or handsome, but he is a man, a statue figure, a badass you are afraid to look in the eye. That is the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD. A beast. So, if you are into trucking but need a beauty, please re-examine your convictions.

The 2020 Silverado HD is a contemporary badass and represents trucking world as a whole in a perfect way. Its bizarre, excessive, aberrant, and grotesque. That’s what the trucks of today are all about. And the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD embodies all these virtues with a striking precision.
