Ever since it burst onto the scene back in 2006, the Audi R8 has evolved into one of the more customized supercars in the tuning market. Even into its second generation, tuners remain rather interested in pushing the R8 to its max. German tuners, in particular, are always quick to build programs for the R8, knowing that its popularity on German soil always creates demand in the aftermarket scene. MbDesign falls in that category, as shown by its new take on the beloved Audi->ke14 supercar->ke177., and in 2014 it is offering a fresh new take on the R8. The camouflage car wrap is a pretty darn good indication that this isn't your regular aftermarket program for the R8.

Some parts of the program are admittedly underwhelming, but the jet-inspired camo wrap more than makes up for those little shortcomings.

Audi R8 By mbDESIGN in detail

MbDesign began its program by installing a handful of aerodynamic components to make the car look more like the V-10 version of the R8. Original R8 V-10 parts like the carbon-fiber front splitter, the side blades, the carbon-fiber rear wing, and the GT carbon-fiber rear panel can be found on this particular R8. As soon as these components were installed, the entire supercar was wrapped in the colors of the F16 Arctic Aggressor fighter jet, hence the camouflaged look. A new full-carbon-fiber diffuser from SuperCar24 and a carbon-fiber trunk cover lining round out mbDesign’s aero upgrades on the R8.

The tuner also replaced the R8's old wheels with a new set of 20-inch KV1 camouflage wheels, and wrapped them in a set of Dunlop Sport Maxx GT tires.

The interior of the R8 received an original GT carbon package, as well as healthy use of Alcantara on the trunk lining and carbon on the trunk’s interior cover. Finally, mbDesign installed a Bang&Olufsen sound system, providing top quality audio technology in a supercar that deserves it.

mbDesign’s program focused on aesthetics and aerodynamic improvements more than anything else. But it still came with a subtle engine upgrade. The tuner accomplished the power bump by modifying the engine software and by using a K&N motorsports air filter. Once completed, the R8 saw its output rise to 453 horsepower, a littler better than the 420-horsepower output of the standard R8 V8.
