The BMW M3 and BMW M4 remain two of the German automaker’s most popular models and it figures given their popularity, it is to be expected that a BMW aftermarket specialist like G-Power would have tuning programs for both of them. Not one to miss out on this opportunity, G-Power did exactly that, fitting the M3 and M4 with a versatile tuning kit that helps give both M vehicles a supercar-worthy output of 600 horsepower and 546 pound-feet of torque.

Yes, it seems that BMW isn’t just content with building a program designed for just one model. The German tuner is now doing it for two, although it probably helps that the M3 and the M4 share a lot of mechanicals. In any event, the programs for both M performance models don’t just end with the engine upgrades. G-Power is also including an aerodynamic kit to help improve the cars’ downforce, a fully adjustable suspension kit to enhance the handling and balance of both the M3 and M4, and of course, a new set of its highly touted Hurricane RR wheels.

Owners of either the M3 or the M4 who are looking for some aftermarket assistance for their cars have plenty of tuners to choose from. But when it comes to high-quality kits for both models, few can do it better as G-Power.

Exterior

Both the BMW M3 and M4 received three aero components, including a front spoiler, front splitter, and rear diffuser. All pieces are meant to improve downforce over both axles, although the M4 program does come with the added benefit of having a boot-mounted spoiler. Both programs do come with upgrades, specifically a new set of G-Power’s very own 21-inch Hurricane RR lightweight forged alloy wheels wrapped in 245/30R21 and 295/25R1 tires, respectively.

Interior

G-Power traditionally doesn’t offer interior upgrades so in keeping with that spirit, neither the BMW M3 nor the BMW M4 were the recipient of any aftermarket updates on their respective cabins.

Drivetrain

G-Power’s secret formula is its Bi-Tronik 2 V3 module that features a handful of bespoke upgrades designed to give BMW’s twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six engine a nice haul of 600 horsepower. The German tuner accomplished this by adding a larger turbine and compressor wheels into the turbochargers. The turbine, in particular, is actually lighter than its standard-issue counterpart, making the entire configuration more efficient through improved throttle responses. In addition, G-Power also installed bigger diameter exhaust downpipes without the catalytic converters. This combines with the equally lightweight titanium exhaust system to reduce back-end pressure and aid in the increase in power and performance.

As a result, both the BMW M3 and BMW M4 now pack 600 horsepower and 546 pound-feet of torque, much more potent than standard 425-horsepower and 406-pound-feet-of-torque figures of both performance models. The increased power also lends itself to a sharp rise in performance capabilities. Think the standard M3 and M4 are powerful enough with their respective 0-to-60-mph sprint times of 4.1 seconds? With G-Power’s Bi-Tronik 2 V3 kit in the mix, both the M3 and M4 can cover that ground in just 3.5 seconds. More importantly, top speed has also risen to a genuinely imposing 200 mph on account of the tuner recalibrating their respective electronic speed limiters.

Chassis and Suspension

With the dramatic increase in power and performance, G-Power sought to complement that with modifications to the car’s suspension that comes by way of the tuner’s own GM4-RS coil-over suspension kit. The aftermarket system is fully adjustable, which means that drivers can manipulate the car’s bounce, rebound, and ride height to their liking while also improving the car’s balance and ride comfort.

Competition

BMW M4 by CarbonFiber Dynamics

CarbonFiber Dynamics may not be as big a name as G-Power in the BMW tuning scene, but the aftermarket company still knows what it takes to make an impressive tuning kit. That was evident when CarbonFiber Dynamics presented its own program for the M4 back in February 2016. The highlight of that program was the engine modification program, which consisted of upgraded turbochargers, a new air intake, and a high-flow air filter. Likewise, CarbonFiber Dynamics also used a methanol injection kit and a tuning module from Burger Motorsport JB4 that, when combined together, increased the sport’s coupe’s output to 600 horsepower and 610 pound-feet of torque. The improvements helped the M4 sprint from 0 to 60 mph to go with a top speed of 200 mph.

BMW M4 by B&B Automobiltechnik

B&B Automobiltechnik also featured a tuning kit for the BMW M4 back in January 2016. Unlike G-Power and CarbonFiber Dynamics, B&B’s program consisted of a three-stage performance kit that gave the M4 varying levels of power improvements. All three stages did come with modifications to the turbochargers to go with a higher-flow intake tract, larger exhaust downpipes, more efficient charge air cooler, and an ECU remap with revised fuel, spark and boost parameters. The result of these upgrades added up to 490 horsepower for the Stage 1 kit, 540 horsepower for the Stage 2 kit, and 580 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque for the Stage 3 kit. Specifically for the third stage program, B&B was able to cut the M4’s 0-to-60-mph sprint time to just 3.5 seconds to go with a top speed of 205 mph.

Conclusion

Considering the popularity of the BMW M3 and BMW M4, it’s no surprise that G-Power decided to kill two birds with one stone with this program. The aerodynamic modifications are a nice touch to both models, especially to the M4 coupe. Likewise, G-Power’s Hurricane RR wheels are always considered top-quality and the engine upgrades to 600 horsepower and 546 pound-feet of torque speak to the caliber of G-Power as one of the foremost tuners of BMW models.
