In the event that you’re unhinged enough to think that the Mercedes-AMG E 63 is still in need of more power, there’s a certain German tuner that knows a thing or two about giving you what you want. We all know what Brabus is capable of. The company has established itself as one of the pre-eminent Mercedes tuners of the world. It has a long list of Mercedes and AMG models that have been worked on and turned into machines of fortune. The 2018 Mercedes E-Class is one of the latest models to get included in that list, and it’s packing a wallop with 700 horsepower at its disposal.

2018 Brabus E700 Exterior

In the true spirit of a Brabus tuning upgrade, the 2018 Brabus E700 gets a smattering of aerodynamic components to complement the engine upgrades. This particular example gives us a clear picture of what we can expect from this upgrade. Up front, the AMG E 63 gets a new front lip and front skirt add-ons. At the back, there’s a new spoiler and a rear diffuser. All these carbons were finished in a visible carbon glossy finish to give them a nice visual pop. Brabus even painted the side panel inserts in the color of the body to make the whole presentation consistent.

And, of course, there are the wheels. No Brabus upgrade is complete without a new set of wheels. In this instance, the tuner opted for a set of 21-inch Monoblock light alloy wheels with an F light alloy design in the front and a Y light alloy design at the back. The wheels themselves are wrapped in a set of tires measuring 255/35 R 21 in the front and 295/30 R 21 at the back.

2018 Brabus E700 Interior

Premium leather or Alcantara. Alcantara or premium leather. It doesn’t matter which one you choose. Brabus has both of them in generous supply. You can even get both in the E700 if you want to. Every surface of the saloon’s interior can be covered in the good stuff. The dashboard? Sure, there’s leather for that. Heck, you can even have it quilted, for good measure. It’s the same thing with the center console, armrest, and headliner. Fine leather and Alcantara options are at your fingertips. How about the car seats? There are leather and Alcantara versions that you can choose, as well. Have one. Have them both. It doesn’t matter. Brabus gives you what you want.

You can even complement all of that with illuminated door sills, aluminum pedal pads, door lock pins, aluminum matte shift paddles, and enough Brabus badges and emblems to ensure that nobody mistakes this car for anything other than a Babus-tuned Mercedes E 63.

The interior of this program is not the fanciest one we’ve seen come out of Brabus. But it is straight-forward in its offering. No frills, no over-the-top color treatments. Just lots of premium materials finished in a Mondial Black color.

2018 Brabus E700 Performance

Oh, yes. With a few exceptions in the past, most of Brabus’ tuning programs revolve around its PowerXtra engine kit. It comes in different shapes and sizes and has evolved over the years, but the results remain the same. If you want Brabus to give your Mercedes models a shot at extra power, this is the product that you’re going to pay for.

In the case of the Brabus E700, you’re getting the B40 - 700 PowerXtra kit. The name alone tells you what you’re in store for. Get the module, have Brabus install it, and you’re unlocking the potential of the sedan’s 4.0-liter bi-turbo V-8 engine. So much so that it can produce 700 horsepower and 700 pound-feet of torque.

Those numbers represent an increase of 88 horsepower and over 70 pound-feet of torque over the standard AMG E 63. That’s good enough to help the filled in saloon accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds before it sets off on a top speed run that peaks at 186 mph. Don’t sleep on these improvements because split-second differences make a world of difference in the world of aftermarket performance cars.

A 700-horsepower and 700-pound-foot Mercedes-AMG E 63 is not for the faint of heart. As you’ll find out in the next section, it’s also not for the thin of wallets.

2018 Brabus E700 Pricing

We’ve reached the most awkward part of the review, partly because this is the time where you get to know how much it’s going to cost you to take home a Brabus E700. The good news is that the price of the car already comes in the total cost. You won’t have to worry about paying differently for that. The bad news is that, in total, you’re looking at a cost of €342,743.80. That converts to a whopping $422,570 based on current exchange rates.

If you want the car bad enough, I suppose there’s no harm paying for it. You are getting a Mercedes-AMG E 63 that’s unlike anything you’ll come across.

Conclusion

While I am worried about the price of the whole thing — car and kit combined — there is a measure of appeal that comes with owning a Brabus-tuned Mercedes. There aren’t that many in the world to begin with, and if you have one, there’s a good chance that you’re going to be talked about a lot by other people for their own reasons.

Regardless, the program offers impressive upgrades inside, outside, and underneath. That’s what Brabus is all about. You’re not getting cheated out of the quality of its work. Just make sure you can explain to your wife your reasons for buying one.
