A milestone was reached in Porsche's Leipzig factory on Saturday. The plant produced its 200,000th Cayenne in the form of a red colored GTS model. Production of the Cayenne SUV started back in 2002 with a lot of controversy. Fans and media expressed their feelings and accused Porsche of diluting their brand image by making an SUV. It has proved the critics wrong by achieving this milestone. And not only that, it has also made other sports car manufacturers to look into the SUV territory.

The Cayenne is a common sight in the roads of the U.S today where thirty percent of them are sold. People love it for its utility and practicality. Energetic looks, advanced safety features and comfort blend in a colossal fashion and these coupled with hair raising performance figures, has propelled this SUV to the top. The Cayenne is an exceptional all-rounder, combining on-road performance and off-road capability. No wonder its Porsche's top-selling vehicle.

Porsche started out selling 20,000 units annually. But the Cayenne's popularity took off and Porsche now sells about 40,000 units a year. The Porsche Cayenne Hybrid will be the next one to join the arsenal.
