Chevrolet’s->ke199 latest Corvette->ke1280 Z06 has certainly stirred up its share of attention this year, and for good reason. It’s supercharged, 6.2-liter LT4 V-8 is a beastly engine laying out 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. When mated to Chevy’s all-new eight-speed automatic transmission, the Z06 is capable of hitting 60 mph in less than three seconds. But for some, that’s not fast enough.

Enter the aftermarket tuning->ke1987 scene. Many would argue that John Hennessey->ke1863 is one of the foremost tuners in the business, helping turn fast cars into ridiculous monsters.

That’s exactly the plan with this brand-new 2015 Corvette Z06, as Hennessey and his team of gearheads certainly have more power planned for its small-block V-8. But before the upgrades get bolted on, John takes the stock supercar->ke177 for a test run.

There’s so much going on during this one-take video.->ke278 All the gauges are doing their own dance, reading incrementally higher numbers as the car rockets down the track. That is, all the gauges except one. Take a look as the fuel gauge moves down a notch during the mile-long run, showing just how thirsty the direct-injected V-8 can be at full throttle.

John tops out at 185 mph, likely due to the Z06’s new downforce-inducing aerodynamics. Expect the extra power to help overcome that unofficial top speed and drop that 0-to-60 time. Just don’t expect the Z06 to get the EPA-estimated 23 mpg on the highway.
