After all the crazy awesomeness that was the Geneva Motor Show back in March, it was hard to expect that the follow-up act in New York could offer much to hold our collective attention. Thankfully, we were proved wrong thanks to a fine selection of debuts in the Big Apple, including some nice production rides, a well-executed concept, and a pair of over-the-top performance machines from FCA. Drawing a blank? No worries – we’ve got you covered with our list of the best debuts from the 2017 New York International Auto Show.

If you have been paying attention, then the first two entries on this list shouldn’t be a surprise at all. Complementing these two outrageous speed-makers is a production luxury SUV and an off-roading SUV concept, the inclusion of which shouldn’t be all that surprising either, considering the segment’s popularity in the U.S. In reserve, we’ve also got something unexpected – a brand-new production wagon.

These are our picks for the top five best debuts from New York in 2017, but we wanna know – what were your favorites? Are they listed here, or did we miss them? Let us know in the comments!

Dodge Challenger SRT Demon

I mean, duh, right? The Demon was the undisputed belle of the ball in New York this year, unless you’re some sicko with a hard on for the Hyundai Sonata… either way, the Demon made some serious waves, arriving with a long list of jaw-dropping specs. Here are a few to chew on – 840 horsepower, 770 pound-feet of torque, 0-to-60 mph in 2.3 seconds, and the quarter mile in 9.6 seconds at 140 mph.

Those are numbers you get when you put together a group of enthusiastic FCA engineers who look at the Hellcat and ask, “What’s next?” And because of that, the world is a better place.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

Equipping more than 700 horses under the hood makes a lot of sense most of the time, but in this particular circumstance, it makes no sense. But that’s okay – the Jeep Grand Cherokee might be crazy, but it’s the good kind of crazy, like putting bacon on a donut. Yeah, it’s a bit much, but the fact such a thing exists at all is awesome in and of itself.

Thanks to AWD grip, this tyrannical SUV-saurus rex manages a run to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, while top speed is rated at 180. And, like a bacon donut, the JGC Trackhawk is probably something you shouldn’t indulge in every day, but when the feeling is right – dig in.

Lincoln Navigator

Moving on from the world of the fast and the farcical, we have the new Lincoln Navigator, a fresh premium SUV that looks astonishingly similar to the concept that debuted in the Big Apple last year. That means it’s got tons of style, both on the outside and inside, with LED lighting, a bold front fascia, and handsome lines for the former, and premium materials, tons of tech, and available 10-inch rear displays for the latter.

Power is derived from a turbocharged V-6, which is expected to produce around 450 horsepower. Routing the muscle is a 10-speed automatic gearbox. Look for it in dealers later this year.

Toyota FT-4X Concept

We saw a few interesting concepts in New York this year, but the FT-4X stood out thanks to its funky style and near-production ready status. Designed for urban Millennials with a penchant for spontaneous adventures in a more natural environment, the FT-4X makes a bold visual statement, arriving with a chunky exterior painted in bright orange and complemented by white and black highlights. The hatch in the rear splits in a variety of different ways to ease loading and unloading, while the beefy tires and lifted stance keep it capable when trekking off the beaten path. The interior is also utilitarian thanks to cold and warm storage containers, all-weather cargo flooring, and sizable capacity. Making it go is a four-cylinder engine and mechanical 4WD.

Buick Regal TourX

It’s a mighty rare thing to find a wagon in the U.S. these days, so the fact the new Regal TourX adds another name to this rather limited segment is a huge plus all by itself. That said, there’s more to this thing than an elongated roofline – it actually looks pretty good thanks to styling and some sporty elements here and there. Inside is a premium cabin space, plus tons of space in the rear, while a turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder, eight-speed automatic transmission, and AWD system provide the motivation. Pair all that goodness with traditional wagon soft-roader cues, and you got yourself a best-in-show entry.
