The latest and greatest in Bavarian crossover luxury

The fourth-generation BMW X5 has arrived, and it looks to bring new exterior styling, a refreshed interior, updated engines, and the latest technology features. The reveal comes mere hours after a slew of official pictures mysteriously “leaked” onto the Internet, and now, we’ve got the official specs to fill in the gaps.

Buyers can get theirs in two different trim levels, including the X5 xDr40i and the X5 xDr50i. Dimensionally, the new X5 is larger than before, with a longer wheelbase that adds an extra 1.6 inches over the outgoing model. It’s also longer overall by 1.1 inches, plus 2.6 inches wider and an inch taller, all of which should enhance the crossover’s road presence and interior room.

The new X5 looks different too, thanks to a restyled front end and those beefier proportions. Standard exterior features include Adaptive LED headlights and 19-inch alloy wheels, while laser headlights and 20-inch M-branded alloys are both optional.

Inside, the new layout seems to angle all the instrumentation towards the driver’s position, while electrically adjustable sports seats are standard. Additional M gear, such as a new sports steering wheel, new pedals, and trim bits are also offered.

As for the tech front, standard spec throws in basics like Blind Spot Detection, Frontal Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning. There’s also a 12.3-inch instrument cluster as part of the latest iDrive system.

Two turbocharged gas engines are offered for motivation, including a six-cylinder and a V-8, with 335 horses made by the former and 456 horses made by the latter. The 0-to-60 mph sprint is completed in 5.3 seconds with the ‘six and 4.6 seconds with the ‘eight. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard, while AWD puts the power to the ground.

Electronically controlled dampers keep the new X5 shiny side up, while Integral Active Steering is an available option. Expect a vast array of settings and systems to customize yours as you see fit. There’s even an Off-Road Package, if that’s your kind of thing.

No official pricing was announced, but expect the 2019 BMW X5 to slot in at around $60,000.
