Automakers are actively collaborating with movie franchises to create some stellar concepts that are definitely not real-world worthy. However, some of the car manufacturers are rolling out superhero movie-inspired editions that add a certain zing to the existing models, like the Jeep Renegade Batman vs. Superman Special Edition, Kia Sorento X-Men Edition, and the Isuzu Vehicross Iron Man Triathlon special. Now, Hyundai has revealed a tasteful example called the 2019 Hyundai Kona Iron Man Edition.

What Makes the 2019 Hyundai Kona Iron Man Edition Special?

We have seen Iron Man associated with Audi since the former’s inception, so it feels a little weird to see a Hyundai in Iron Man’s colors, but the car sure has the pizzazz when compared to the standard Kona. However, the South Korean brand has done a fine job with the Kona for the Iron Man edition. A fake vent that is basically a piece of red plastic can be seen on the hood. For some reason, a fake vent on a Kona is more believable than a fake vent on Toyota Supra. Have we spoken enough about the fake vents on the new Supra? Well, nothing can ever be enough.

Anyway, let us not digress from the topic because we have our whole lives to rant about the fake vents on the Toyota Supra. The Hyundai Kona Iron Man Edition has been painted matte black with a metallic red roof, mimicking the ‘red amour’ paintwork, and matching accents all over the exterior. The rear door comes with Stark Industries logo decals while the roof looks sexy with a giant Iron Man mask decal. The car rides on 18-inch, Iron-grip, dual-tone, alloy wheels. One can also find badges of his mask on the fenders and wheel caps. All this seems quite fancy, but the coolest thing we found is the Iron Man emblem puddle lamps!

The instrument cluster, including the custom design for the heads-up display, also features the superhero theme. Tony Stark’s signature on the dashboard will always remind you that this is no ordinary Kona. The car comes with an 8-inch infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In terms of safety, the Iron Man-inspired car offers Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Recognition, Blind Spot Detection, Central Locking Remote Control Downhill Brake Control, Driver Attention Alert, Lane Keep Assist, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert to name a few.

Some Things Don’t Change

You don’t get Jarvis to help you touch some unmatchable speeds. In fact, you don’t even get a new mill under the hood of this Hyundai Kona Iron Man Edition. However, this engine can be availed with front-wheel-drive system or an all-wheel-drive system, both of which are mated to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission system.

Our Take

Seeing the automaker-filmaker collaboration, I strongly believe that we need to have an auto-show similar to Comic-Con. There is obviously no dearth of concepts that have been used in movies. For instance, there is the Black Beauty from Green Hornet, the outrageous Veloster from Ant Man, Camaro from Transformers, Batman’s Batmobile, Dodge-badge slapped Fantasti-Car from Fantastic Four. Phew, the list is endless.

Hyundai announced that the car will go on sale in the first quarter of 2019 and the company has priced the 2019 Hyundai Kona Iron Man Edition at £27,995 ($36,000) on the road. The South Korean has certainly upped the game in the segment with this special edition. To keep up with the competition, will we see Seat and Kia go berserk with the Arona and Stoinic as well?
