I have no idea what BMW is planning to do with the BMW M2 CS. Even though the car has been spotted on multiple occasions, BMW has still not officially acknowledged its existence. Is BMW trying to pull a Corvette C8 type of hype with the M2 CS? We don't think the German automaker can play the cat-and-mouse game for long now, because a video has already surfaced the net and it shows the design of the car up close and gives us a clear indication as to how it sounds. Well, it makes us go weak in our knees!

The 2020 BMW M2 CS Bears A Lot Of Similarities With The M3 CS and the M4 CS

It feels as though BMW does not even bother keeping the M2 CS a secret anymore. The exciting prototype was spotted doing test runs on the Nurburgring. Despite being wrapped up in black and white bandages, the design elements were more than evident. BMW has borrowed a lot of styling cues from the M3 CS and the M4 CS as well. All these things are present in its elder siblings as well.

What makes these things even more drool-worthy is that they are all made out of carbon fiber! The prototype spotted was riding on 19-inch Y spoke alloys wrapped in low-profile Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires. To differentiate it from the M2 and M2 Competition, BMW could install the Adaptive M Suspension in the M2 CS. According to another report, black Alcantara will most likely be the sole interior theme choice. An Alcantara steering wheel will be available as option, and you will get to choose your BMW M2 CS with either a manual or a DCT gearbox. The 2020 BMW M2 CS will be available in four colors - Black Sapphire, Alpine White, Hockenheim Silver, and Misano Blue.

The 2020 BMW M2 CS Looks Like It Will Drive Like A Charm

In one section of the video, we hear the engine grunt loud and clear up close. I would recommend you use your headphones to enjoy the symphony. As for the engine, we have a mixed feeling about how BMW handles things in this department. The M2 CS is rumored to feature the same engine found under the M2 Competition's hood; albeit with more power. All the mills that BMW builds as of today are not used to their full potential. The same goes with this S55 engine as well.

Some reports, however, suggest that the M2 CS could produce up to 445 ponies. Now, we know these engines can do much better and released better power output figures. But with so many trims and models in the lineup, BMW is forced to restrict every engine's potential so that power outputs don't overlap with the other models. That's what competition does. So, instead of focusing on the power, BMW will look to deploy this car with better handling and weight management. The M2 CS will likely bring a better steering rack, more powerful brakes, and some aerodynamic bits as well.

Final Thoughts

The M2 will undergo a generation change the very next year, thus leaving BMW with no option other than to kill the M2 CS and re-introduce it in the next-gen form. Does that mean BMW is using this M2 CS as a scapegoat for the next-gen M2 CS? Too many permutations here, so let's just stick to the basics here without divulging deep into the theories.
