Two months since it unveiled the new-generation Chevrolet Silverado HD through a bunch of photos and limited information, GM finally released the full data on its strongest and most capable heavy-duty truck yet. Needless to say, it's pretty impressive.

The 2020 Chevy Silverado HD Offers Easier Access into the Bed

We've already seen photos of the Silverado HD back in December, so we already knew that it looks really bold and that it shares little with the regular Silverado. The former are additional steps added to the bottom of the bed, near the rear doors, which you can use to reach into the front part of the bed, located near the rear window.

Larger corner steps mean you will have better grip and balance when climbing on the rear bumper, which should enable you to load and unload bigger and heavier items. Each corner step was designed to hold a pair of size-12 boots and up to 500 pounds.

The 2020 Chevy Silverado HD is Larger All-Around

The new Silverado HD is a bit bigger than its predecessor. Now 250 inches long, the truck is 10.4 inches longer than the old HD truck. It's also 1.4 inches wider and sits 1.6 inches taller above the ground. Finally, the rear track is an inch wider.

The 2020 Chevy Silverado HD has a Larger, More Comfortable Cabin

The Silverado HD benefits from a larger cabin that provides more space for the passenger. Chevrolet claims class-leading headroom and legroom, but the facelifted Ford F-Series HD that's about to debut in Chicago might change that. A higher seating position provides a better view from behind the steering wheel, which translates into a more confident feeling while driving.

The 2020 Chevy Silverado HD is Offered with a New Engine and Transmission

The Silverado HD comes with a new 6.6-liter V-8 gasoline engine under the hood. This mill mates to the already traditional six-speed automatic transmission.

The previous Duramax 6.6-liter turbodiesel V-8 carries over with the same 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet, but it now mates to an all-new 10-speed automatic gearbox developed by Allison.

The 2020 Chevy Silverado HD Has Impressive Towing Capability

In addition to the new engine and transmission, Chevrolet upgraded very component between the gearbox and the wheels in order to increase max towing capability. AThat's a 52-percent increase over the old truck. This figure is available for Regular Cab, two-wheel drive, diesel models.

The 2020 Chevy Silverado HD Comes With New Trailering Tech

Towing is now much easier thanks to a new Trailering System. This in-vehicle trailering system features 15 camera views, including HD Surround Vision and a transparent trailer feature. It requires an installed accessory camera and a check mark on the options list though.

The 2020 Chevy Silverado HD Has Plenty of Extras Over the Competition

The Silverado HD comes with a few features that you can't have on the Ford Super Duty or the Ram Heavy Duty. The Silverado HD also has a larger max cargo box volume. Rated at 83.5 cubic feet, it offers an extra five cubic feet over the Ford and 8.8 cubic feet over the Ram. The BedStep integrated into the sides of the bed is also a unique feature, as are the trailer tow mirrors. It also includes options that you can't get from the competition, including the engine-drive Power Take Off feature, the automatic two-speed transfer case, power up and down tailgate, 120V power outlet in the bed, head-up display, and the 15 camera views for the trailer.
