The Porsche 911->ke282 is famous for many things. It is considered the "quintessential sports car" and the "benchmark for all others" and its among the most successful race cars,->ke148 having won motorsport->ke447 events at Daytona, Sebring and Nurburgring,->ke999 sometimes even against prototypes. More importantly, it's famous for its distinctive styling and rear-mounted flat-six engine, two features that have survived for more than five decades. The video->ke278 above, courtesy of YouTube user "PicClick LLC" focuses on just that, showing how the 911's shape has changed with each important redesign.

Launched in 1963, the 911 received its first significant update in 1973, when it received new bumpers and revised aerodynamics. However, the 911 Classic, as it is known today, would continue to use the original design until 1989, when the 964-generation->ke740 arrived. Changes would once again include new bumpers and a few nips and tucks, but the styling remained pretty much unchanged, as the 964 was more about innovative technologies than anything else.

From then on, Porsche began upgrading the 911 a lot more often. The next model, the 1993-1998 Porsche 911 993 Series, came in 1993 with a more sleek design, while 1999 brought us a heavily revised sports cars->ke506 that put an end to the air-cooled 911. Two more updates came in 2005 and 2012, shaping the German sports car into the 911 we know today.
